Your dog's name...

    • Bronze

We named KC after "Casey at Bat" (although we spelled his name differently) because he LOVES to play ball; he'll play all day if you let him.

    • Gold Top Dog

When we adopted Penny, her name was GoGo. Her previous family was Chinese and GoGo apparently meant Penny in English. We called her Penny and it just stuck. We tried re-naming her "Mocha", but it just didn't work out. She's been Penny ever since. =]

    • Puppy

We named our beautiful yellow Labrador "CASH" (Endless Mts Ring of Fire)...after Johnny Cash.

Originally we were going to get a black Lab and wanted to name him Manny (EM Man in Black)...after Johnny Cash...but changed our minds and went with yellow instead. Perhaps we will save the name Manny for our next lab.

Hubby & I thought "CASH" was a cool name, also very different! I do get a bit angry when people think we named him Cash after $$money$$...oh well, guess not everyone is a Johnny Cash fan!!

    • Puppy

Emma Louise - rottie/lab mix.  All black.  That was her name when I adopted her but it fits her so I kept it (I added the Louise).

Bella Jo - her name at the rescue was Spunk but my son didn't like it.  He chose Isabella, Bella for short, and since I have to have middle names for my kids and animals, Jo just sounded good with Bella and it's my sister's middle name.

    And now for the cats:

Miss Kitty - she's been around now for about 13 years and trust me, she is definitely "Miss Kitty".

Lulubelle - sounded good with Miss Kitty.  Unfortunately we lost her about 8 years ago and she is still missed terribly.

Lucy Boo - she was originally named Lucifer.  When my son brought her home she was, as still is, all black.  She was only 4 weeks old when he found her in a dumpster so when we found out she was a he, her name was changed to Lucy.

Phoebe Ann - she was a rescue that was about to be put down because she has one bad, ulcerated eye and everyone thought she was "ugly".  Phoebe was already her name, along with her siblings, Chandler and Joey - you get the idea.  She came from a hoarder who had at least 50 cats.

My first two dogs were Cori after Cory Aquino and Rambo, self explanatory. They were strays we rescued.

My current dog is Lucy named after Lucille Ball and she was bought from a friendly couple who's Dogs had a litter and our cat's name is Ozzy after Ozzy Osbourne. He was found in a dingy pet store, hidden away in a box with other kittens so my partner rescued him.

    • Silver

Quinn came with his name and I kept it. I named Chase, well simply because he looked like one. haha

    • Gold Top Dog

Axel Rose (Zara) Her sire's name is Axel. Roses are supposed to be beautiful. Rose is common though so I picked Zara because it means shining; flower she is a shining rose.

Ryu I was going with dragons there.

Alchemist was possibly going to be called Elixir but that sounded too girly so we settled on Alchemist.

Ms. Viper Venom (Vipette) She got her name from her grandsire except with the "Ms." added. Vipette I made up but think it sounds neat.

    Wilder Venom
(Jaxon) I picked his reg. name because of the OFRN lines Wilder and then after his grandsire. His co owner picked the call name. He was being called Wilder.

Nediva means noble and honest, I think the APBT is a noble breed so thats why I picked it.

Be My Valentine I didn't pick but I know it was picked because she was born on V-day.

Samara Its a pretty name and has the meaning guardian which is what we were going for. We also liked Shamira but I think Samara just fit her better

Hex I didn't pick the call name but decided on the registered name U've Been Hexed

Category 5 (Five) Just sounds cool and not something I've heard before. Took me awhile to come up with it. His brothers are Twister Jr (TJ), Tremor and Mudslide. His sisters are Dark Skies (Bella), Storm Chaser and Lady Twister (called Rubia Spanish for blonde because of her buckskin color).

Thunderstruck was named after the AC/DC song but often my MIL calls him Thunderbutt which he comes to.

    Quick Shot
was named after his sire (Quick) and grandsire (Sure Shot)

Bouwho Has the Bou because of the bloodline, her brother is called Peek A Bou, there is another female called Baby Bou, also Bou Bou, Mr Bou and Black Bou.

    Mudd River
I wanted to call Riker but DH didn't like that. He has a brindle/white face, the side that has the brindle also has a black mask. So maybe he looks like a muddy river.

    Jewlieee

Neiko: I was looking for something that ended in an o and one day I just came up with the name.

    That is a neat name.

    corgipower

Ares ~ named for the Greek God of War. I have always enjoyed the mythology, especially the Greek, plus when I got him I was a huge Xena fan.

Morgan ~ She s a corgi, so I wanted something kinda Celtic, but she's also a rough and tumble kind of dog, so I wanted something kinda cowgirl, and it fits for both. As an interesting note, when she gets in trouble, I call her Morrigan, which I later found out is a Celtic War Goddess.

Tyr is named for the Norse God of War. I wanted to go back to the mythologic names, and he seemed to be in need of something from Norse. After looking through books on Norse mythology, the only two names I liked were Odin and Tyr. Odin is kinda overdone, plus I could see people turning it into "Odie" which would be way too cutesie for a Mal.

Nyx ~ I had to really scour the mythology references for her name. I didn't want to go with another War deity, because she has enough spitfire in her without the name influence. I liked Nyx ~ I had been cosidering Nikki for her before finding the name, and Nyx was kinda similar to that. Nyx is the Greek Primordial Goddess of Night.

All your dogs have neat names, love em.

    Canine and Abled
erd.  I wanted something a bit exotic that had a spiritual connotation to it.  A friend of mine had suggested "Hope", but it was too vanilla for me... I looked up translations of "Hope" on the Internet and came up with Nadja...which means hope.  I liked the idea of having dogs named Hope and Grace ;-)

    Thats a cool name.

    • Bronze

My Dad named Prissy and it just kind of stuck and Sammy waas named after my neighbor's son.

    • Gold Top Dog

Our beloved Shadow was named the first night we brought him home, cause he follow us so close that he was stepping on our heels we kept singing " Me and my Sha-a-a-a-dow"

Rocky was named GUY by his Foster Mom, Hubby named him Rocky a few days after we adopted him.  He is named after "Rocky Balboa" cause he has this habit of slapping your face with his paw.

Hot Shot was named by the breeder when he was born.  Since we rescued him at age 2 we decided to keep the name he was used to, however; we usually call him "Hot" which is perfect cause every chance he gets he is in the house in the Air Conditioning!

    ***Fun stuff ***

When hubby answers the phone,  knowing it me on the line,  he says "Hot, Rock N Ron's"  Kinda sounds like a bar if you ask me,lol!

    • Gold Top Dog

Gobie- my red minpin.  I just made it up really, but it really suits him.  He's always on the move or into something! Although he's older now and not as active.

Lexi- bichon.  One of dh's and mine favorite names.

Darby- bichon, another fav. name of mine.

Beige roan guinea pig boar:  Diego- he's got crazy brown hair like the cartoon caracter.

    • Gold Top Dog

    Xeph
I'm a music fanatic (I play several instruments, am a music composition major, etc etc) and I wanted both a name that represented my love my music AND a name that was unique.  So I picked "Strauss" for my Shepherd :-)  He's named after the violinist.

Great name!  I was a violin major in college, and I wholeheartedly agree with musical names. Smile

When DH and I knew we were getting Nike, one of the names DH thought of was Mahler.  I thought it was a good name too, but Nike just wasn't...Mahler enough.  When we brought him home, he zipped around from room to room, so we thought Nike was more appropriate.

    • Gold Top Dog

Spirit-my border collie-came with his name.  He already knew it so I just kept it.

Charlie-my GSD-named after the shepherd in "All Dogs go to Heaven"....loved that movie as a kid

    • Silver

Alley- First dog together with my fiance.  Named her Alley because are first date ever was bowling.  Bowling "Alley".  Kinda corny I know. :-)

    • Gold Top Dog

My husband is a big NY Yankees fan so we named our dog Jeter after Derek Jeter. The funny part is the dog's breed is a BOSTON Terrier.

    • Gold Top Dog

My mom named the majority of our dogs, but I got to name mine.

    • Toy was named because of the way she walks, it's a prance like a wind up toy instead of a walk so Toy it was, especially since she was so small as a pup.
    • Brutus got his name because he's a brute - a brute with a heart of gold and a goofy streak but a brute none the less.
    • Doodle's name was Dolly first, she was so sickly as a pup and my mom picked it but she turned into a red-headed you know what(as my parents say) so the name changed over time to Doodle because she's so sketchy sometimes and she really likes it.
    • Kong's full name is King Kong Cricket because such a little guy needed a big name, and he lives up to it.
    • Tiny got her name just because we couldn't think of anything that fit and she's such a dainty but not-very-delicate little dog...Tiny it is. Most of the time I just call out, "hey pup-pup" because that was the call for her and Brutus since they could walk and they still like it and answer to it, Tiny more than Brutus.
    • Rupert has had 3 names since he was born, the first was Lucky because at just a few weeks old he had a black 3 leaf clover mark spread across his back but as he got older and larger it distorted and blended into the black on his rump so then I changed it to Trouble, which he was, and finally to Rupert - If anyone remembers the cartoon Rupert the Bear? Rupert was my first dog and happened to coincide with my freedom to leave my street for the first time in my life on walks and bike rides so Rupert's real name is Ruper - World Explorer... he still answers happily to Trouble tho Wink
