Your dog's name...

Tucker -- it was between Tucker or Prince....you just dont name a working/stock bred dog Prince, in my opinion its disgraceful. So he became Tucker on the way home from the breeder. Which later shortened to Tuck on most ocasions.

Taz -- we couldnt find anything to fit him when we got him, so he went for a week as 'puppy' or 'dog' or 'cutie' before I wathced the Looney Toons and started calling him Taz.

On my way to pick him up at the breeder I thought of all types of goofy names; Aristo, various chinese names, etc. My gf at the time said, "Let's see him first then we'll see what names suits him". I didn't wanna do "pet" names like Fido, Duke, Spot, etc and when I saw him, he was all calm and collected even as a pup and he was very handsome so we decided on Kane because it sounded like a dark, mysterious villian that never spilled his martini! When he acts all goofy, he becomes his alter ego, Stupid Boy.

Elvis, Hubby named him before I met him, He likes the sound of his voice.

Stamp, came in the mail and was too cute to call Anthrax.

Strays we've taken in until we could find them another home.  Big Dog, was a 94lb yellow lab, it just fit.  Noodle, was an adorable mutt that I called "Noodle Brain" in frustration one day, her addopter kept the name. :)

Too many cats to list but the best was a cat I had as a kid.  Nightmare, was a B&W cat that would lick your eyelids when you where sleeping.   You just can't sleep through that.

Ollie originally came to us as "martin" which he didnt respond to at all... the morning after we got him, i was flipping channels trying to find something OTHER than kiddy shows, when i paused at "rolie polie olie" to grab the phone... the pup went nuts everytime one of the characters said "olie"... at some point the extra L got added, but the name stuck =] essentially he picked his own name

Bernard was named after the saint bernard because when he was a little little puppy, he was fat and looked a little like one. xD

Memory, because I loved the sound of the name! Also, it was because I was trying to choose between Hope, Whisper, Rememberance, and Rain. She didn't look like a Rain, and I didn't find Hope a good call name, and Rememberance was too long, but it made me think of Memory. So it was Memory or Whisper, and she definitely wasn't a quiet girl, so Memory it was!

Sam was origionally Samson by the family that rescued him. We changed that to Sami and now he's mostly called Sam.

Such interesting naming stories!  I wish our naming story was half as interesting.

Dahlia was named that at the shelter when she was brought in.  The foster home who rescued her kept the name and by the time she got to us (a month later), she knew the name, so we kept it.

We tell people she's named Dahlia, "after the flower."  The truth is she was probably named after the Black Dahlia.   Clever, but a bit gruesome.  We do like the name though!

Poseidon came from the rescue with his name, and I have no idea what he was called before that (from what I know of his first owner though, I doubt it was all that great). He usually gets shortened to "Po" or "Po-Dawg."

His name doesn't really fit him, as he despises water. He doesn't even like to walk on the morning dew if he can help it.

    • Puppy

    Aissa

It is an African name meaning "grateful". I chose it because I grew up in South Africa and we took her in when she was left in a box outside a store. I wanted a name that meant something. We are grateful for having her and I'm sure if she could she would tell us she is grateful for having a good home with lots of love.

    Monkey

My daughter named this little one Monkey because when she was first adopted from the shelter, she actually climbed the fence just like a monkey would, with all four legs/arms. Now Monkey lives at the Beach with me and the fence is a wooden privacy fence that she can't climb.

My mom said she always wanted to name a dog Diesel, and it kinda fit. I tried Rusti at first and I could not imagine calling him that for the rest of his life, so I went with Diesel. And usually that brings a smile to people's faces when they see a Poodle named Diesel, and he's a coward on top of that too haha. And ontop of that, Diesel gets more hugs and kisses when they find out his name! So it fits.

My black labrador name Hershey ;) cuz she black like hershey chocolet.

CANDY- She was originally named sugar by the people that brought her to the shelter and I didnt think that fit her at all.  Besides the fact that I couldnt imagine yelling "come her sugar, good sugar! LOL! So therefore we let the kids name her and as most 5 and 3 year olds like they decided on candy.Big Smile

My first dog Kane was a Rottie; he was named after bodybuilder guitarist Kane Roberts who had played guitar with Alice Cooper...

I'm just getting back to this thread and saw this.  That's too funny- my best friend's Rott is named Kane, for raising cane because he was such a handful as a pup.
