RIP Coconut

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    RIP Coconut

I helped Coconut cross to the Bridge today.  It was time.  He found me in the midst of a flood of epic proportions in 1998.  I heard a desperate meowing outside my office.  I went out in the pouring rain and he came running to me and practically leaped in my arms.  He was just a tiny kitten.  I had already said previously, many times, that I wanted no more cats.  But from the moment he found me I knew there would be no giving up this kitten.

He was raised with my Labs and he helped raise Twister. lol  He loved dogs and was always shocked when a dog didn't want him to cuddle up and snooze.   Belle has always tolerated his advances but just tolerated.  Rex thought Coconut was his cat and they slept together and were best friends.  Twister and Coconut had a live and let live policy.  Twister never was able to intimidate Coconut in any way.  Coconut was unflappable.  Gabby thought he was the most incredible fluffy toy ever and loved him just a bit too much and with way too much slobber. :)

DH and I are both very sad.  He was  one of the most loving cats we've ever owned.  Here are a few pics I found.  He could worm his big butt into any space that contained a dog or a comfy lap.  Belle was trying to pretend he wasn't there.  Twister's face tells the story of their relationship. lol  I know he's at the Bridge looking for his BFF dog, Magic.  If animals can be soul mates, they were.

Run free Coconut, you were loved very much and will be missed.

I don't know why I can't space pics properly on this site anymore.  Sorry for the crammed together look.

Oh Jackie - he was so pretty and distinctive ... and what a special special love affair!  And so unique with each he knew.  Coconut + Magic -- they just sound like they go together, don't they?

What a lovely tribute, from wee kitten to adult charmer!  Coconut was loved, and shared his love with every being he met - human and canine, whether they wanted lovin' or not LOL  I enjoyed the photos as well.

I am sorry for your loss.  Coconut, run free at Rainbow Bridge, happy and healthy, meeting friends old and new.

Awwww -- I'm so sorry to hear about your loss of Coconut.  What a beautiful cat -- his markings are so pretty.  I love hearing about cats who are so friendly with dogs.  Those photos show what a sweetie Coconut was; the first one is just adorable.

He had a wonderful life with a family of special people and pet siblings.  How lucky that you found each other all those years ago.  I'm sure you and your husband are very sad and will miss him terribly.  I hope it brings some comfort to imagine him curled up with his sould mate, Magic.  And maybe he's willing to make some new friends, too.  Our Tonka loved cats, but during his life he only met one who was willing to come close to him, and he slobbered all over her as she did figure 8's around his front legs (she belonged to neighbors, and they would laugh when she'd come home with slobber all over her silky black fur).  Tonka would be very pleased to meet Coconut, and he'd offer a napping spot close to him anytime.

My condolences to you and your DH, Jackie.

Thanks everyone.  Tracy, I'm sure Coconut has found Tonka and is happily covered in slobber.
