Maxine, 1992-2006

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    Maxine, 1992-2006

Maxine watched our children grow from kids to adults and brought untold joy and love to our family. We had her put down this morning, on the verge of her bad days beginning to outnumber the good. Maxine was our first dog, and she was the best old bitch a person could ask for. We grieve and give thanks through our tears. Run free Maxine.

My heart goes out to you and your family Mcdirt. It is always hard to let someone go that you loved and bonded with all these years. They never are really yours to keep and leave you to await your arrival at the Rainbow bridge one day. Let your tears flow as this is a good start for healing broken hearts. Know Maxine loved you and your family and did her job well. Always remember her in your hearts of the wonderful times she gave you.
Rest in peace sweet baby. Mine that are at the Rainbow Bridge will meet and greet you to show you around.
Big hugs to you and your family. I cry with you.

My sympathy to you for having to make that tough, but very loving decision to let her go before those bad days became the norm.

Wishing you comfort is such wonderful memories and peace for your much loved and very good girl.

Hugh, I'm so sorry for your loss.  We had to make a similar decision in January for our precious boy -- I know the heartbreak involved.  It's awful to see them failing, and you hang on to the good days, until you realize they are few and far between.  And even knowing the end is coming soon regardless of your decision, it isn't any easier to take those last steps.

Maxine was with you and your family a very long time, so I'm sure there are many, many wonderful memories to keep in your heart.  But, for a while you may only feel deep sadness and loss as you try to get used to the space, physical and emotional, that she left behind.  Tonka was our first dog, too, and the grieving process has been so difficult as we struggle to get used to a life without him beside us.

May you find both old friends and new friends at the Bridge, Maxine -- and run with a strong, healthy body once again.  Watch over your family while they cry for you.

Best wishes to you and your family, Hugh.

    Run free sweet girl.

I am so sorry Hugh. That is such a tough decision to have to make. I just had to make that same decision, for one of our cats, just a little over a week ago. As you said "we grieve and give thanks through our tears". They have left us with so many wonderful memories.
My sympathies to you and all of your family

Thanks all. It's all pretty much a blur. Typed off plenty of messages of sympathy to others since I began looking in on I-Dog many years ago, and knew our time would come. Maxine arrived in our lives March 18, 1992 at 6 weeks old. She left us March 18, 2006 .... a year to the day that she came. I didn't relaize that until much later that night. Coincidence? Maybe!

    Amen, Hugh.

The chukchi proverb is that how you treat your dogs determines your ability to get to heaven. If you have treated your dogs well, they await to pull you into heaven.

    She'll be waiting for you.

Hugh... she too gives thanks and grieves through  her tears...Assuredly we miss them, but they pause in heaven to always think of us...and remember.

I am convinced they always run free, missing us...its their way of staying connected.

May you be be blessed with comfort and consolation of Maxine's love.
