my friend is gone

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

I'm so sorry you're facing this heartbreaking time.  We lost our nearly 10-year old beloved boy last year to what was thought to be a tumor on or near his pituitary gland (he too had some of the Cushing's-like symptoms, his eyes were less involved, but nerves that controlled his swallowing and breathing abilities were severely affected).  I know the agony of a decision like the one you made, and the second-guessing and regrets that follow it (was there anything else we could've done?  Did we rush to the decision to euthanize him???).

My heart goes out to you and all who knew and loved Lucy.  I'm sure she's watching over you as you adjust to life without her.  Take care.

Lucy is gorgeous!  She looks like she could have been related to my Lani.  Wish I had a pic to show you. *Sigh*

This is an excerpt from a poem I found very moving called 'The Fourth Day" by Martin Scott Kosins.

But there will be, I assure you, a fourth day
    when ..............
along with the memory of your pet -- and piercing
    through the
heaviness in your heart -- there will come a
    realization that
belongs only to you. It will be as unique and
    strong as our
relationship with each animal we have loved, and
    lost. This
realization takes the form of a Living Love --
    like the heavenly
scent of a rose that remains after the petals
    have wilted, this
Love will remain and grow -- and be there for us
    to remember. It is
a love we have earned. It is the legacy our pets
    leave us when they
go. And it is a gift we may keep with us as long
    as we live. It is
a Love which is ours alone. And until we
    ourselves leave, perhaps
to join our Beloved Pets -- it is a Love we will
    always possess.

Finally, after a week I can read this without crying; it is beautiful and so true.

I'm sorry to see the problems Lucy had and the ultimate decision you had to make on her behalf.  I'm so very sorry for your loss.  You and your family are in my thoughts.

it's been 2 weeks and I'm still bad (I have my moments, that is).  She was always underfoot and looking to see what I was doing and looking for cues ( like changing my shoes meant a walk in the park).  She knew what I was going to do before I did it and we always got such a big kick out of her.  I just thought she would be one of those dogs who lived to be 15 or 16.  It's really hard.  I have 2 other dogs that are very different than Lucy but I love them dearly and they have gotten me through the hardest parts of this.  We got her ashes back and I wrote a eulogy and enclosed her pictures.

So sorry you're hurting.  Lucy's importance in your life is evident.  She looked like a sweet girl.  Run free sweetheart, and check in on your mom from time to time.[sm=angel.gif]
