Sad News During Vacation

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

Linda - I am deeply sorry for the loss of your beautiful Ruffles and for the very, very difficult circumstances.  We lost my "heart cat" when we were gone only a few days for my college roommate's wedding and I have experienced all the doubts, guilt, fears and second guessing you have been describing.  My sitters did not take her to the vet, as they knew I had stopped office vet visits because they were too stressful and the home visit vet did not do weekends.  She passed hours before we arrived home.  In fact, Saturday was the fifth anniversary of her passing and a difficult day.

It was one of the hardest times of my life - I wish you strength and peace and comfort and peace for Ruffles.

Two days after the loss, in the midst of a surge of sad thoughts and wishing I could have told her thanks for being part of our lives, I was walking past a shop window and saw a small white figurine of a spaniel holding a one-word sign. ...[it] said only "Thanks." I think it was not chance that I passed that way that day.

Oh my heart breaks for you. I am so sorry.

    Ruffles, romp free with Shiloh.

Perhaps Ruffles tried to leave while you were gone, knowing how hard it would be for you to let her go - I think she knew you would accept a sign from beyond that everything was ok and she was with Shiloh... <<>>

Oh I'm so sorry.  Ruffles is beautiful; how lucky you were that she shared her life with you.  She'll send you another pup when the time is right.

Thanks for your thoughts, everyone. She was quite special among all the dogs I've known. I have a snapshot in my head of her running with Shiloh that gives me great peace of mind. I know they are together.

that just about brought me to tears. my family has only owned cockers. my parents are on their 3rd and my husband and i adopted kenny last july. saying good bye to bandit, my parent's 2nd cocker was very hard especially b/c he was only 10 and his decline was rather rapid. but i know he is up there running around with mindy sue, our first cocker. they really are nice and i don't know if i will ever adopt outside the breed.

i am sorry for your loss. at least you know ruffles isn't in any pain now. definatley get yourself another cocker. the great thing is that their personalities are diferent and you will find little things about a new cocker that you will love as much as the traits that ruffy had.
