Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    entirely and utterly sad:(

    Very suddenly my dog Cloe became ill....within 3 days I couldn't even get her to take water....I had to make that awful decision and take her to see the vet....so this past Wed. she was put to sleep.....she was 8...How long will I cry I wonder?  How long will my heart ache for her?  ........I can't believe she is gone

    I am so sorry for your loss.  Run free, Cloe[sm=angel.gif]

    I can't say how long it will take for you to stop crying or the ache to lessen.  Each person grieves in his/her own way for however long it takes.  You will, however, find comfort and support here.  {{hugs}}

    It's usually taken me about a year or little more to get over the passing of a loved one to the point where I can think of them without a torrent of pain. I have found that has applied to me, whether human or pet.

    Tracy - I'm so sorry -- at 3 days you are still SO raw and hurting.  Hopefully you will see this as a good place for support -- not just now but with future fur friends as well.  As someone said in another thread - you will never 'get over' it -- because they are WORTH remembering forever.  But you will learn to deal with is -- and day by day it will become a pain you can cope with and that will blossom in your heart to bring the joy of remembrance.  THAT takes a good long time, but it will come.

    But for now -- take the time to grieve.  Because she was worth it -- she was worth it ALL.  Bless you.

    I'm so sorry for your loss.  Please don't think it is unusual or wrong to be feeling so grief-stricken after just a few days.  You are in the earliest phase of grieving, and the first few days can be almost intolerable.  I didn't get out of bed for 2 days, and if it wasn't for a deadline at work on the third day, I'd probably still be there.

    When we lost our precious boy 6 months ago, we had lots of time to prepare, as his health declined over a period of a few months.  To have a sudden loss like yours would be a terrible shock.  Take each day one at a time, and keep lots of Kleenex nearby, and come to this forum for the support you may not always find from your regular daily circle.

    Take care.  Run free Cloe, and watch over your family as they face each day without you.
