For those of you who remember Permanent's long story about her rescue, her blindness, and her ovarian cysts...
Perm died last night, almost six months to the day after her cage mate, Temporary, died. That's an interesting little fact considering they were six months apart, so that put Perm right about four years old. She didn't have an easy start in life, being born blind and was about to be returned to a supplier for breeding. God knows she wouldn't have made it very long there. I had to syringe feed her water when I first got her until she got used to her cage, but once she adapted to things, there was no stopping her. She never really knew she was blind, and she was always the most active of all my pigs. Until yesterday, she continued to chow down on anything we fed her, and she could demolish a pile of hay in no time. In her younger days, Perm came with me when I did education programs at local schools, but I retired her when she developed ovarian cysts that couldn't be removed without seriously risking her life on the table. She lived almost two years after the cysts were first drained, and despite the alternative drainings, they turned to cancer. I know she had a good life with me, and I know she's better off now, but it's still sad to see my little fighter lose in the end.
