In memory of Thunder

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    In memory of Thunder

My neighbor lost one of his colts earlier today, his name was Thunder. He had a rough start he was rejected by his mother and was doing great on a nurse mare till today when he hit his head on concrete, had a seizure and died. He wasn't even mine but i'm very sad about this, [:(] [:(] [:(] he was a sweet little guy and so loving. Thunder was only a day old. Here's a pic.

Sometimes when an animal gets a 'rough start' -- particularly if the mother has rejected them, I think it's because she somehow senses the animal just plain isn't going to make it.  Animals can be incredibly pragmatic about such things -- it's distressing to us, but sometimes I think they just plain understand "it's better that this one dies young rather than hurting over and over" -- it sounds as if there was just something not quite right.

It IS heart-breaking.  Thunder was a sweetie -- I don't think any of us can not see that picture and not fall a bit in love.

But Thunder is running free in that Meadow above -- and he waits -- maybe as much for you as for whoever actually owned him.

We all think when he was born he fell on his head and that sure didn't help matters none.

How heartbreaking!  To see such a fragile young thing like that, and know he's not here anymore.  I hope he's happy and running free now.  My condolences to his owners.

I feel the same way.  Poor little Thunder... what a sad loss.  I'm so sorry.

Oh, what a beautiful baby he was!  I've never had a horse, but whenever I'm up close to one, I think they're such gorgeous and elegant animals.  My heart would be broken, too, even if he wasn't your little guy.  What a tragic loss.  Run free, sweet Thunder.  You touched a lot of hearts in your brief life.
