Baylor

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    Baylor

Today my old man will leave me.  The vet is coming after the office closes to ease Baylor on his way.  Baylor always did hate going any where.  He was only really happy at home with all his people and dogs together.  He was my momma's boy and worry wart.

He was a medical marvel or a medical mess depending on the point of view.  He was not an easy dog, but I love him.

Thanks for the opportunity to mark his passing.

I'm very sorry to hear about your dog...how old was he?  I just lost my older greyhound and it is very sad.  Maybe they will become best friends when they meet at the Bridge...you are in my thoughts...

I know how difficult times like this can be.  Even when you know you're doing the absolute right and compassionate thing, it hurts like hell.  I'm sorry.  Run free Baylor [sm=angel.gif]

Thank you,,, It is funny the things that break your heart.  Last night it was feeding the dogs,,,,one less bowl.  Having people support me and who understand my grief helps to get through these times.

    No worries Baylor. [linkhttp://mysite.verizon.net/rynovrabel/id1.html]http://mysite.verizon.net/rynovrabel/id1.html[/link]

Wow, Baylor was a beautiful boy.  I can imagine what a void you must feel and I know what you mean about the one less bowl at feeding time.  I remember how painful of a reminder those things are.  We know that they're free from suffering, but we just miss them so much.  I hope the wonderful memories begin to replace the sense of loss for you soon.

Baylor was a hard to dog to live with.  Considering all his medical problems that would be expected.  It started with a retained testicle (all the way up to the spine) which triggered my noticing an odd position to his tail carriage; which resulted in an xray to find hip displasia; which led to a diagnosis of spina bifida in the 7th lumbar vertibrae and invasive surgery at seven months old.  Then we got the food allergies, the autoimmune disorder which caused him to shed his toenails to the quick.

He was one of the smartest dogs I have ever owned.  When we brought him home in ungodly heat, he parked over the airconditioning vent within minutes of finding it.  After being four days, he had just woken up.  I called to him to get him out the door.  I made the mistake of saying "hurry up", the potty word.  He stopped his purposeful little trot, stared at me as if to say, "Are you sure?".  Squatted and then continued his way to the door.  No doubt in my mind as he never had another accident until his spine started deteriorating in old age.

He got my kid through those painful teenage years and kept my dad walking when he first moved in with us.  He convinced my son in law, that big dogs were cool and he needed to have one to balance out the pocket dog they started with.

He lived to pass his thirteenth birthday.  Not a bad number in this case.

My sympathies for a significant loss. Sometimes losing the ones we've been through some health crises with is more difficult - that extra care and no longer having to perform it resonates deeply.

He was a lovely boy and sounds as if he was blessed not only with intelligence, but sensitivity and intuition.

Wishing you comfort and peace for Baylor.

Maryann, I'm so sorry to hear about Baylor.  There's nothing I can say that hasn't already been said.  Just know my heart is with you.

    RUN free, Baylor  [sm=angel.gif]

I'm late seeing your sad news about Baylor.  What a gorgeous boy - and obviously a very special dog.  It's true, as Lisa Marie said, that the pets that need extra care can be so much harder to lose because of the intense attention and effort that becomes so much of one's routine when caring for them.  My friends said the same thing when they lost their dog who'd been ill all her life.

But 13 years is a testament to the loving care you provided - and he's sharing the love you gave him with his friends at the Bridge.  Run free, Baylor. [sm=angel.gif]

Thanks  I appreciate this.  It seems that just when the grief catches up with me, someone offers a hand.  It helps.

Maryanne, I just saw this.  I know the pain you feel because I still cannot believe my Dancer is gone.  I hope that time will brighten the memories you have of your old friend, and that you will know the signs when he sends you messages, which I think he will.  Dancer will teach him how. [;)] All you have to do is see.
