My Greyhound Just Crossed Over the Bridge!

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

My Greyhound Just Crossed Over the Bridge!

Faith is now running free at the bridge...her kidney levels had risen too high and she had lost almost 15 lbs. in 6 months so we decided to let her go.  She was a wonderful friend for 11 years - we got her at age 2 and always laughed because she flunked racing school...just would not run for them so they got rid of her.  She sure is running now!!!  She could not get up our back steps this morning so I knew she probably would not come home.

I am very sad, but I know she had an excellent life with us - she was very happy for 11 years so that is all we can do.  I'll miss her antics and how somehow she knew at 7pm every night it was cookie time and danced around and barked ( altho not lately with her being sick)

Run free my Faithers...no more kidney problems or weak legs anymore...I love you! What a special grey you were, indeed!

I'm so very sorry to hear about the loss of your sweet Greyhound.  What a remarkably lucky girl she was to have had such a loving home for 11 years.  Your care was surely what helped her live such a long wonderful life.

Having had to make that terrible decision for our dog last year, I know how hard it is to be marking all the moments as "the last ones."  The hole and ache in one's heart never goes away, you just get used to it being there, under the surface.

I will imagine Faith stretching her legs and running in a manner that is far better than around a race track -- she can feel grass under her feet, see and smell beautiful landscapes around her, and stop in the shade of a tree whenever she wishes.  I'm sure the angel races are not competitive at the Bridge, and everyone is just happy to run together.

Run free Faith, and watch over your family as they adjust to days and nights without you.

I'm so sorry to hear about Faith. You did the right thing by letting her go to the Bridge so she could run free and not be in pain anymore.

Sorry you lost your funny friend.  You did the best you could for her and let her go when she was suffering.  Your description of her was of a very happy dog.  May the dancing girl be with you always.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is NEVER enough time that we have with them but what a lucky girl to be one of the ones pulled from the track at such a young age and to find her forever home with you and your family.  Run free Faith...

Gosh so sorry to hear.  I hope I'm posting to the right place.  I haven't been in the web site for a long time.  We lost Casey in December and I'm now a foster mom to an abused little Lady.

What kind of dog is Lady?  We took in an abused Poodle, but she was so terrified of us even after 5 weeks that a kind lady who keeps abused puppy mill dogs took her and she is flourshing now!  We just did not know how to handle her.  Bless you for taking the time to work with an abused dog!

I'm sorry to be posting so late here - I meant to do so earlier.

It sounds as if you had a wonderful 11 years together and you showed your love right to the end with your compassionate yet difficult decision.

Wishing you comfort in your memories of a special greyhound and peace for your beloved Faith.
