Brownie has crossed over to The Bridge.

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

Brownie has crossed over to The Bridge.

I posted on February 23rd about my parents' dog, Brownie in another section.  He was in poor health that seemed to happen rather quickly.  He had a history of seizures, had meds to treat it.   I came here hoping for some answers and Callie was able to help me find a wonderful holistic vet for a 2nd opinion.  After an ultrasound and what looked like cancer of the liver (and many more issues) she gave him possibly 4 to 7 days to live.  That was March 3rd.  I'm very saddened to say that Brownie passed away on Sunday.

Brownie was only my parents' 2nd dog in the house.  FeFe was the first and she left home with me when I got married back in 1994.  That's how Brownie came along... my new neighbors bought what they thought was a Pekingese.  With a snout like that? lol  He was nothing but a ball of fuzzy fur when I took him to my parents, asking them to just 'think about it'.  They agreed to think about it over the weekend and would let me know if they were going to keep him or not.  I knew when I left what that answer was gonna be [:)].  He was always a keeper.  He just needed the right parents.

I believe we were all in denial because he seemed to be getting better.  I told my DH I thought he'd pass away Sunday.  I'm not sure why but I felt it.  FeFe passed away last year, on Sunday March 26th at 1:30pm... He passed on Sunday, March 25th at 1:30am.  I know Fe was at The Bridge eagerly waiting for him.

Brownie was a husky, 27lb Lhasa Apso that LOVED to chase after his squeaky ball thrown down the hallway... I miss hearing the click - click - click - click as he ran to fetch that ball... then the sliding noise his nails made on the hardwood floor as he tried to stop before he hit the closed door.  He was loyal and loving.  He loved laying on or near the cool vent in the livingroom during summer, when he was able, he kept watch over the house by looking out the front window.  Nothing got by Brownie, he'd bark LOUD if he thought you needed to know someone was outside or he'd whisper a 'woof' if he saw something but didn't really want to bother us with it.  He HATED to be bathed and he hated going for rides, he'd make us laugh when we'd hear that half hearted growl when he needed to have one of those done.  He was a snake wrangler and LOVED to see Dad just reach for the BB gun.  He couldn't contain his excitement!  When Fe became sick and stayed with Dad during the day when I worked... Brownie let her have her way.  Sharing his food, water, toys and attention he normally got... he was a good boy.

There's so much more I could write about Brownie.  I could write all day about all the cute little things he did to make us smile or laugh.  Or how he was Dad's buddy while Mom worked during the day.
He is missed more than words can say but we know he's with his bestest buddy, FeFe at The Bridge now.  And that brings a lot of peace to all of us.

Run Free, Brownie.  Sissy loves & misses you bunches.  [sm=angel.gif]  Please tell FeFe we love and miss her bunches too.

I am so sorry. Run free Brownie, there are no baths at the Bridge, just a good romp in a stinky creek, if you want.

I'm so sorry to hear about Brownie, but it sounds like he had a fabulous life and now he can enjoy his time playing at the bridge with FeFe.  Run free Brownie [sm=angel.gif]

Brownie is undoubtedly utilizing the stash of balls that absolutely MUST be beyond Rainbow Bridge!  There are too many dogs who would absolutely DEFINE Heaven by how much ball-playing there was!  (I've always assumed angels get SOME recreational time!!  If you knew me you'd know I"m absolutely serious about that -- I mean no disrespect at all!)

Brownie tried so hard ... and at last it was his time.  My sympathies to your parents.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about Brownie's Crossing.  I'm sure he was met @ the Bridge by Lucy with a tennis ball in her mouth & she led him to the stash of balls so he could have his own.

    Play free, Brownie  [sm=angel.gif]

Thank you guys so much for your posts.  Mom knew I had written about Brownie before when he became sick and was surprised by the responses, the good thoughts, prayers & advice that came from it.

This morning, she asked if I had written anything about Brownie.  So, I read everything to her -- what I wrote about him and all of your responses.  Neither of us made it through without crying.  I just want all of you to know that your words of comfort mean a lot.  When someone experiences a loss for the first time or when the memories & sadness seem to come back to the surface quickly... having people that understand is priceless.

Thank you again... I know he's in very good company.  [sm=angel.gif]

Missy, I've been away from the forum most of this week, so I'm just now seeing your posts about Brownie and FeFe (and your PM).  I'm so sorry that Brownie is no longer with your parents (and the rest of your family), but as you said, to know that a very special friend was at the Bridge waiting with a wagging tail and familiar bark is a comfort.  FeFe will surely return to being a joyful companion for Brownie, and she will open her circle of "Bridge Friends" to welcome Brownie, too.

My heart goes out to your parents - I know they're struggling with that horrible silence & stillness of the empty space where Brownie once was.  Please send them my sympathy.

Run free Brownie -- and give FeFe lots of snuffles and kisses on behalf of everyone who misses both of you very much!
