I let Jax go today

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    I let Jax go today

About two weeks ago he started to vomit more often and didn't want to eat.  He lost about 10 lbs this month and we had a blood panel done two days ago to check him out.  I thought his liver perhaps.  No, his kidney's.  He would need flushing of them several times a week, he had anemia and a bad infection.  They wanted to do an ultrasound immediately to see what it would show and the cost was just too much for us.  We saved him two years ago and I am still broke from that 6 month ordeal and we just gave up.  My heart is broken.  Being in our house is unbearable.  Many here might remember my Jax.  He would have been 10 on mother's day but didn't make it.  To just be able to rub my fingers through his fur one more time would mean the world to me.  Good bye my Jax.

It sounds to me like you made the best decision for Jax. The treatment sounds very uncomfortable and he was weak and sick. Is that him in your avatar? Those ears look so very soft!

I'm so sorry. Run free Jax, you're not sick anymore.

I'm so sorry for your loss. You have my thoughts, prayers and hugs. I know all too well what it's like having to have a beloved dog put to sleep, I had to have my Angel put down. [:(] Do you have any pics of your baby?

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss of sweet Jax.  Having lost our precious dog last year, I'm very familiar with the longing for one more stroke of the ears.  Our dog had short fur, but he had this one little flap at the bend of his ears that was the softest thing I've ever felt.  When I close my eyes when it's dark and quiet at night, I try very hard to feel it again in my memory.

Run free Jax, and watch over your family who will miss you dearly.

So sorry you had to face such a heart breaking decision, but that would have been so much to put him through.

Wishing you comfort and peace for dear Jax.

I'm very sorry to hear about Jax. [:(] You did the best thing for him though. I think it's much kinder sometimes to let them go rather than put them through a bunch of treatments that only buy a little time. My thoughts and prayers will be with you.

How are you doing today, Susan?

There is nothing I can say that will ease your pain but I am sorry for your loss.

    Dear Susan,
I'm so sorry to hear about Jax. I know how hard it is to make those choices. You did the best you could and Jax knows.

I hope your wonderful memories of Jax will help your heart heal.

Susan - Glenda emailed me (I've been out of pocket a bit).  Both Glenda and I have lost cockers to renal failure.  It's so so hard.  All the subQ fluids do is buy you a LITTLE time.  It's soooo hard.  You did the right thing.  Jax had a great life with someone who cared, and that's so much more than he would have had otherwise.

I can promise you that Rusty and Muffin the Intrepid 'met' Jax as soon as he tripped over Rainbow Bridge.  Please take care and let us know how you are.
