sudden death...

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    sudden death...

Hey, my name is Tom and I am new to this forum. I joined this forum to help myself deal with the recent loss of my dog. Her name was Sandy and she was a beautiful 8 year old Airedale Terrier. Last night me and my sister were up in the kitchen doing our homework when we heard an odd long cry coming from Sandy who was downstiars lying down on the couch. We ran over to see what had happen and by the time we had got their she had past away. My family loved this dog so much and it is just so hard to think about her no being here anymore. She was a very healthy and happy dog. We have no idea what could of happen, has anybody heard of a sudden death similiar to this?? What could of cause this??

    Thanks for listening,

    Tom

I am sorry for your loss.  As to reasons, a blood clot maybe.

Tom, I am so sorry for your loss. I am not sure what would be the cause of this but maybe it was just that God needed her by his side. Please know that Sandy is at Rainbow Bridge now, running free as the wind, healthy and happy.

It could have been a heart attack prior to the final death cry.  My seemingly healthy bulldog had one but were lucky that the ER was 5 mins away and they saved her life.  She only lived 3 more months on heart meds. She had a tumor on her heart and an arrythmia (irregular heart beat).  She finally just collapsed, stopped breathing, and died 4 mins later.  My dog was only 9.  What a shock for you all.  It is just not fair.  But on the other hand, you have to realize that the Higher Power spared your dog from a lingering painful death of cancer or arthritis or something.  That God loved your dog so much that He spared her from a life of pain.  I hope this thought can help give you some comfort .   And that you will see her again on the other side when you go.  HUGS

Happy to listen, Tom, and very sorry for your loss. It's clear she was a well loved member of your family and you must be very shocked.  I'm quite fond of Airdales - I'm sure she was beautiful.

Wishing you and your family comfort and peace for your dear Sandy.

Tom.....I am so sorry for the sudden loss of your beloved pet. My thought is that there MAY have been some congential abnormality (most likely Cardiac) that caused this tragedy. My heart goes out to you. Chances are there was nothing that you, or anyone, could have done to prevent the loss. Please kep checking in and let us know how you're doing? Is an autopsy being done?

Again Love and Prayers going out to you.

Tom, I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your sweet dog.  I don't know what's worse - to lose them so suddenly without being prepared at all, or to watch them slowly fail and succumb to a long illness.  Either way, the pain of the loss is the same, and my heart goes out to you and your family.

As for what could cause such a sudden death, I can think of two times I've heard of such a thing.  One was from a member on this forum whose young and healthy dog died suddenly after the pancreas ruptured.  Another co-worker of mine had a cat who died with a painful cry and they determined it was an aneurism or embolism (forget which is the correct term).

Run free, Sandy.  Watch over your family as they face these sad days and adjust to life without you. [sm=angel.gif]
