goodbye, Morgan

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    goodbye, Morgan

Our dear friend, Morgan, left us today. This gentle giant of a girl has reached the end of her earthly body and has gone to the Bridge.

I met Angela and Morgan because of Morgan and Gypsy.  Morgan, a 165 pound Great Dane, met Gyspy when she was ONLY ninety five pounds--and Gyspy was five pounds! She and Gyspy were best friends until Morgan got too old to get around easily.

My DSs stayed with Rachel (Lee and Angela's 3YO daughter) while I went to the vet with them in case they were too shaken up to drive. We all spent time saying our goodbyes and I waited out in the office until she was sent peacefully on her journey.  Then we made a threesome hug and cried a LOT.

It is so nice to know that Morgan is pain free, seizure free, has her eye back (lost one a couple of years ago), has a strong, new heart and her hips are now fine. I will miss her dignified manner as well as her deep "WOOF" when she was protecting "her" baby, Rachel.  RIP, sweet girl.[sm=angel.gif]

I can just see that tall elegant figure gliding across the greenest meadow at the Bridge, practicing the melodious "WOOF" for when you all get there.

I'm so sorry to hear about Morgan.  She sounded like a very special girl and had a wonderful life with lots of loving human and canine friends.  My heart goes out to your friends.  Was Morgan their only dog?  I'm sure it will be hard for them to grieve while helping their young daughter understand where Morgan is now.

In our old neighborhood, we periodically ran into a man walking a harlequin Great Dane in the nearby field.  As you know, Lori, there's ;plenty of fog here in the Willamette Valley, and there were many days when Tonka and I couldn't see more than 10 feet in front of us.  It was so eery when we'd see Hurricane silently and gracefully appear out of the fog.  It was like she was an apparition (it was always early in the morning, VERY quiet).  A few times, it startled us, but then she and Tonka would spot each other and a happy greeting ensued.  She was the only dog Tonka ever met that was larger than he - he always seemed a bit baffled that he had to stretch so high to sniff her hind end or snuffle her face.  She's at the Bridge now, too, so I'll use Anne's imagery to visualize some regal girls strolling through grassy fields (sans fog, of course!).

Run free Morgan, and watch over your family as they face the days without you.

Sorry to hear about Morgan, but it was so kind of you to help them through this time that way.

Danes are so majestic; Tracy, I love your description of Hurricane emerging from the fog.  Our neighbors lost their beloved boy, ironically named Zero and few months ago and I miss seeing his striking figure out strolling. He was a gentleman.

Wishing for comfort for you and your friends, Lori, and peace for Morgan.

I'll pass on your thoughts to Lee and Angela. Today was a gloriously beautiful fall day here in Oregon.  I could only think of Morgan looking down upon us, wagging happily as her girl played with Dad.

Lori, I am sorry for your loss. Thoughts of peace for you and her family. How old was Morgan?
    Godspeed good girl.

I'm so very sorry to hear about your loss, lori.  Morgan is in some great company at the Bridge... I'm sure they're all running up to greet her.  And to know that she's no longer in pain helps even tho she is so greatly missed.  She sounds like a very sweet girl.

    Run Free, Morgan  [sm=angel.gif]

I am so sorry! What a beautiful tribute to Morgan you have made by your writing Lori!
Of course I have a special place in my heart for the Danes and their families,  they don't get to spend as much time with us as many of the other breeds!
I'm happy you were there with the helpful hugs!
