Run Free Jessie and Bullseye

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    Run Free Jessie and Bullseye

Jessie was the closest thing to my own horse that I've ever experienced. She and Bullseye came to Grace as part of an abuse case. Bullseye was especially malnourished and it was believed that he had sacrificed what little there was to eat for Jessie. Jessie suffered from moon blindness and Bullseye was not only her best friend but also her protector. Whenever they wandered too far from each other, Jessie would panic. She rarely moved further than a foot or so away from him and the love they shared was an inspiration to many of us. I chose to sponsor Jessie last year and the support I received from friends and family was wonderful and amazing.

Recently, Bullseye went down in the paddock and they were unable to get him back up. It was clear that he couldn't be saved and it was also clear that Jessie would never survive, nor want to survive, without her best friend. They were both euthanized at the same time. I feel blessed to have known them both and was so proud to say "Jessie is my horse". I'll miss them both deeply when I visit the ranch but I know that Jessie is enjoying the sight of things she hasn't seen in many years and is no longer afraid. I know that Bullseye is still her best friend and protector too.

Oh, Cathy -- what a sweet picture of Jessie and Bullseye.  I know they were a special pair - I remember when you've posted about them before.  I'm sure it hurts your heart to lose both of them (regardless of whether or not they lived with you -- they were "yours";).  But it sounds like the best decision not to try to make Jessie live without her true companion.  They are both healthy and strong, and they remain a bonded pair in spirit.

Hugs to you -- what a sad time you've been going through.  You're in my thoughts.

I can picture the two of them running wild and free and kicking up their heels in joy!   I know you're so sad that they aren't at Grace anymore but I'm really happy that the rescue sent them to the Bridge together.

    ^^^ ditto what Jackie said.

    Gallop free, Jessie & Bullseye...

Oh Cathy -- thank you for letting us know.  Jackie said it best -- I can just picture the two of them actually **playing** at the Bridge, healthy and with no fear.

((hugs)) you will miss them, I know ... and I will miss your stories of them

Beaautiful picture so sorry for your loss.

They WERE rescued, they knew the love of one another, and they had some time to learn that not all humans were like those they had met.  This all makes for a wonderful life for them.  Keeping them together likely was the best decision from what I read here.  Run free Bullseye and Jessie!

I am sorry for your loss of these two souls

((( cathy)))  I'm so sorry you lost Jessie so soon after Sassy, but she would have suffered greatly without Bullseye. They were very special; I didn't know horses could be so devoted. Run free Jessie and Bullseye.

((((Cathy)))) I was so sad when I read your first post about them going to the Bridge, though sending them together had to be the right decision. I, too, see them running and playing in a wonderful field of soft grass together. And, I'm pretty sure there's a nice apple tree for yummy snacks any time, too.  (((more hugs)))

How sad...though letting them go together sounds like it was for sure the right thing to do. I am so sorry. What a sweet picture of the two of them. Gallup free Jessie and Bullseye.
