Run free Sweet Chloe - shadowsgin

Many of you will remember Chloe. A co-worker fostered her from a local shelter that was doing a remodel in the dog room. Chloe was an old lady dog and was surrendered because she had become an escape artist. Lydia and her husband had a 3 year old lab "Bear" and were in the process of trying to adopt a child. They of course fell in love with Chloe and made her an official member of the family. Shortly after adopting her they received word that they had been chosen as parents for a soon to be born child. Making this a very happy family and Chloe a grandmother dog.

Last night Chloe was on the porch, on the welcome mat, where she prefered to lay to watch over her family. They said Goodnight to her as always and she seemed happy and in good spirits. They awoke this morning to find that she had crossed the bridge. Sitting beside her,guarding her and making her journey safe was her "Bear" . Chloe had the best last year a dog could have. She had many acres of meadows and woods and creeks to run and play.

Chloe came to this family a few weeks before they found out about their son Maverick. Over the last few months Maverick has been recovering from a brain surgery. He has passed his medicals with flying colors. Chloe crosses the bridge just a few weeks after this good news. I have to believe that Chloe was sent to watch over this little one, now knowing he is safe and well she can move on.

Oh, I remember Chloe for sure. And when she got to Rainbow Bridge, at the bottom of the Bridge was a little red and white peke (with a Mostlie Sheltie not too far away). Kee Shu walked up to Chloe and said "You hepped the BAY-Beeeee??? That's good -- now Bear can handle it and you gots US fur friends now. I LOVE Bay-beees -- please tell me about him!!! Did he puts his fingers up yore nose? They like that!"

Feel young again sweet Chloe, the bridge is a wonderful place that takes very good care of older thoughtful dogs like you.

I cry every time we lose another dog, but know they are safely at the bridge with my little April and Bonnie. Run free....

I am glad you got to spend some time surrounded by the love of your people - big and small - and of your friend Bear. You were and are love. Farewell, sweetie.

Oh, reading this made me teary. I am so thankful there are people like your friend who are willing to open their hearts and homes to senior pets. It sounds like her final year was everything a dog could hope for ---- and what a special angel she is for Maverick and his family. And something about knowing Bear was standing by her really tugs at my heart, too.

I have a couple friends whose dogs passed while they were sleeping. Although losing a beloved dog is heartbreaking in any situation, it's comforting to think that they were at home, where they felt safe, in a favorite napping spot, surrounded by familiar sounds and smells, etc. While it may be a shock to the people when they find them, I imagine it's a lot better than that horrible trip to the vet's office, which is so upsetting for the people and the dog.

Run free Chloe -- you were a very special dog and many people will hold you in their hearts.

Oh sweet Chloe I am so glad you had your bear with you and that you were able to support Maverick and his family through his difficult times AND you got to love and be loved by a wonderful family ((hugs))
