RIP Chloe and husky dog. **GRAPHIC**

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

RIP Chloe and husky dog. **GRAPHIC**

I talked to my mom on the phone tonight and she was horribly upset. She lives in a rural area and keeps goats and chickens. She heard a goat screaming out and went to her enclosure and two huskies were ripping Chloe to shreds. They were literally EATING her ALIVE. My mom started screaming and one of the huskies ran off, but the big male stayed behind. My stepdad came out and shot the dog who wouldn't run. He died instantly. Chloe was bleeding out and in misery.. so he shot her too. There was no way a vet could stitch her back together and she wouldn't have survived long enough anyway. They buried the animals in the field side by side because they feel bad about both deaths. My mom is really grieving for both of them and feels so, so sad, and kept the dogs collar. She's been crying because the smaller husky comes back and cries and barks like she is looking for her mate. Abbie the remaining goat is alone and scared. What my stepdad did is 100% legal, but that doesn't make anyone feel better. This is such a tragedy. Nobody, in my mind, is to blame except for the husky's owners.

Peace to Chloe and the Husky both at the bridge. I am in tears about it, I can only imagine my mom.

Oh, man... I'm so sorry your mom and step-dad had to witness that, and especially sympathetic to your step-dad who was forced to make that decision.  Your poor parents, I can only imagine them replaying that in their minds, wishing for ways that it could have turned out differently.  Poor Abbie for having endured witnessing that, too.  Please tell me they have secured Abbie in some way to prevent the smaller husky from getting the same idea again?

Peace to both animals, who were just being animals, no right or wrong in their action.  This was the fault of the owner.  Peace to your parents who had to be responsible for life and death of those animals.  We grieve the loss, but please don't torture yourself with gruesome thoughts.

OK, I'm sorry--city girl here---they just buried the dog??  What about locating the owner??  I'm not trying to sound rude but I just don't understand that part--but again, I'm in the city--people don't have goats or guns.

Yes, they buried the dog. They don't know who the dogs belong to and the collar lacks ID. I don't know what or if they're trying to find the owners, but my mom kept the collar incase they can return it to the family. Not to sound morbid, but what are they going to do with the dog's body without knowing where to take it? Other than decomposing in the sun... they opted to bury him.

Abbie is being kept in the barn when not being DIRECTLY supervised now, the hot wire didn't seem to affect the huskies either because of thick coats or something else...

I feel so sad about this. :(

Oh my gosh I am so sorry for your mom and step-dad. It is a horrible thing to have to witness. It is also horrible that because of a dog owner allowing there dogs to roam that your step dad had to make the decision he did.

Again, not trying to sound rude, but aren't there authorities that could of been called??  I didn't mean to imply they should of left him "decomposing in the sun".

Willowchow, I hope I didn't sound snappy or like I was trying to put words in your mouth. Not what I was trying to do! I think they did what they did mostly out of shock and grief and trying to be respectful to the poor dog. I'm not saying it is what I would have done (nor would I have shot the dog) It is a bad situation all around.

    • Gold Top Dog

What a terrible situation!!  It's just so not fair to anyone.

RIP to both Chloe and husky dog. :(

Please, people, spread the word and ask that people NOT leave their dogs outdoors unattended, especially in rural areas.  This whole thing was *preventable* by both sides.  If the Husky owners kept their dogs in, and if Chloe was kept in, when no one could watch them, they might all be alive and well and Chloe's people would not be so sad.  They didn't do anything "wrong" in the sense that their dog was on her own property, but if a human had been with her, maybe she'd have had a chance...let this be a learning experience, please.

No, no, you didn't.  I was trying very hard not to sound that way myself, LOL!

I think I misread this to begin with?  Chloe is a dog or a goat??

Either way, I know that your parents were put in a horrible position.

Chloe was a pygmy goat :( Very muched loved and I am sure the husky was too. Annie, Chloe was allowed out in her enclosure but it was supposed to be secure with hotwire. It didn't seem to have any effect this time. Sorry if I didn't make it clear she was a goat, I was so shocked and sad when I typed the first post.

At this point all we can do is wish them well over at the bridge. Farewell little goat and husky dog.

I was also a little confused as to whether or not Chloe was a goat. So sorry it had to end this way. Living out in the county on an old dairy farm growing up, I remember things like this happening and as much as the family tried to keep their end secure, wandering dogs and coyotes would come and go. Ducks would go missing overnight and our own goat got mauled by a neighbor's dog. So, I understand where you are coming from. We also buried our pets in the yard which to me didn't seem strange at all but now looking at it from a city perspective I can see how that may seem odd.

Oh, OK, I thought she was a goat.  But, after Anne posted I thought I had misread what she was.

Xebby is right, all we can do is say RIP to them both.

I feel bad for whoever owned the husky. Apparently he was in great condition with a beautiful coat. Someone really loved him. It makes my stomach turn. An of course, poor little goat Chloe stood no chance. I hope they are both at complete peace now.
