The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

      I know this is "Unbelievable" but today we lost Abby our 13 year old Basset. Today around noon she was having a hard time breathing and she went into a Lethargic state. After spending the day with her at NorthPaws then Ocean State it was determined she had a tumor. She was sooo weak and we are still in shock that we lost her so soon....She is now back with her brother Rocky, Barney, Fred & Clyde

    We Unexpectedly lost Abby today 4 days after loosing her 13 year old brother. Abby was also 13 only 3 days apart from her brother. Abby was also know as precious lady, Stinkin butt and Sticks. Abby loved to lounge in front of the woodstove, hang in the yard on nice summer day and just lounge with mommies. Mommies will miss you Precious always and forever.....

    Oh, no ---- I just finished my post to your thread about Rocky.  I can't believe I'm seeing this only seconds later!  I'm so very sorry you're dealing with a double heartbreak.  I know this sounds silly and cliche, but maybe Abby just felt it was important that Rocky have company, or perhaps she just felt too sad to continue without him there everyday.  I don't know what to say . . . I'm just so sorry.  Take care.

    I am so very sorry -- but it truly isn't uncommon for a pair that were very bonded to "leave" to be with each other - particularly since this dog was ill "silently". 

    My most heartfelt sympathies -- I've lost dogs close together and it is unbelievably sad and difficult.  *hugs*

    Oh, I don't even know what to say. . .I'm so sorry.  I'm hoping that the thought that they are together is comforting to their mommies. 

    Ocean State is a very good place so I'm sure they did all they could.

    I can not imagine what you must be going through right now.  There are no words to make you feel better but know that many here are sending tons of comfort and support as you deal with this truly unbelievable shock.  (((hugs)))

    I'm so so sorry. I can't even imagine your heartbreak. Hopefully it's a bit comforting to know they are together again at the bridge. Wilted Flower

    Oh, how horrible for you to have lost both so close together.  I am so very sorry for your losses.  As people said, the two may have been very bonded together.  As one failed the other failed too.  So sad.   My heartfelt sympathy to you and your family.

    So sorry to hear of your losses this week.  I cannot even imagine what this must feel like.

    I have visions of Rocky meeting Abby at the Bridge and his tail waggin' with a big smile on his face.

    What a tough week for you to suffer the loss of two dear friends at once.  I'm so sorry.  I am thankful they have eachother over the Rainbow Bridge, where they will carry on like nothing has changed, except their bodies are renewed and they can run and play like they must have done when they were both young.  With sympathy for you and your family who grieve for Abby and Rocky.

    I am just seeing this, I am so very sorry.   Perhaps hard to see now, but wonderful for them to be able to spend eternity together. Now they will both be watching over your family, together, as it has been for the last 13 years.
