My Sweet Boy Taz

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    My Sweet Boy Taz

I lost my sweet little Shih Tzu Taz last night to complications of IMHA. Two years ago I was working at home and saw a car on my dead-end road throw what I thought was a bag of garbage out. I ran out to get the liscence plate of the car when I realized it wasn't a bag of garbage but a little Shih Tzu. He was filty, ungroomed, thin and not neutered. I had to chase him up and down the road to try and catch him, he ended up running under my car which led to another 45 minutes laying in the street trying to get him to come out. I finally was able to pick him up, although there was lots of growls and knashing of teeth. Took him to the SPCA just in case he was stolen and possibly someone was looking for him, he had no ID so he was available for adoption in 48 hours. I went to adopt him (who wouldn't want a little Shih Tzu that bit!!) and the SPCA did not want to let me have him because of liability issues (he bit the groomer there).  I finally convinced them to let me at least try as I had no children that could get hurt. They finally agreed and my little Taz came home. The SECOND (seriously) he entered my home that little dog transformed into the most loving, fun, awesome little soul ever. He entered my pack and was a complete and total joy every single day. He was wonderful with children and NEVER EVER showed signs of biting again. I still can't belive he's gone, he was only 3. My best friend summed it up beautifully, he was a smile everyday, I'm heartbroken.  Goodbye sweet Taz, you will be in my heart forever and I hope your story inspires others to give a "hopeless" case a chance.

Run free & loved, little Taz.  I'm so sorry for your loss but also want to thank you for showing him love & compassion.  There's a new star in the night's sky.

I agree.  (((Hugs))) We lost our sweet Shadow at the age of 4.  Seems like such a short time but it sounds like Taz, just like Shadow, was here for the purpose of making your life special and leaving you as a different person, a better human.

Run Free sweet Taz, all of our furr babies that have gone before you will meet you at the bridge!

You did so much for Taz - from the moment you saw him.

You understood that he was scared, and tired, and too afraid to let anyone help him.  And you worked with that, and more importantly you took a calculated risk on helping an unknown dog who was understandably upset.

So often love wins -- and the love you get in return is immeasurable.

So very sorry for your loss.  Being new to the forum I didn't know Taz's history with you.  An incredible story.  You gave him a chance.

I know he will be missed.

So sorry for your loss. So tragic to lose him so young but wonderful that you were able to give him the years you did. Thanks for giving Taz the chance to show who he really was.

I am so sorry (((hugs))) Taz, look for Frisby at the Bridge. She knows all about the IMHA stuff and she'll show you around. No more pain or sickness, little one.
