Goodbye CJ

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    Goodbye CJ

My Grandma called me this morning with some very sad news.  Her poodle CJ died this morning when my aunt accidentally ran over him in her SUV.  He was old, 15 years, and had lost most of his hearing, his eyes also had cataracts so he was also going blind as well. He couldn’t see or hear the vehicle coming.  My Grandma had let him outside like she normally does every morning but was started when she heard my aunt screaming.  It was fast and he suffered very little.

My Grandma had inherited CJ when his owner, a good friend of the family passed away about 5 years ago.  Now CJ can once again be reunited with Sally and they can play over the bridge.  He was always a loyal friend to all, old and young.  He will be greatly missed.  Goodbye CJ.

This is the best picture of him... When my Grandma was out, he would sit on the couch and wait there till she came home:

Ohhhh CJ you get to be with Sally again -- that's bittersweet.  But oh Xebby -- your Grandma must be devastated beyond belief ... even if he was old, she must be just completely torn up.  Will keep Grandma in my thots and prayers as well.

Thanks all for the good thoughts towards CJ.  The name CJ was short for Chico Jr.  He lived a very happy, healthy and long life but the news of this was still a bit of a shock to all.  We knew his time was closing in on him but never did we think it would happen this way.  The family wrapped him in his favorite blanket and then buried him under an old cottonwood next to where my cousin's beagle is buried so he would be near a friend. I wish I could be there right now but I live too far away.

CJ was a huge part of Sally's life so when she left this world it was like a part of her lived on through the dog.  I know it's always difficult when a pet passes but it feels as if my family also lost part of Sally that we were still holding onto.  Sally was the kind of person who loved and cared for animals so much that a lot of who she was shined on through in CJ.  Now they are together once more.

Oh no,,,,what a way to go! Poor Grandma!

But,,,if there is anything good to say about it.... at least your Grandma didn't have to go thru any time of watching CJ in pain and suffering........ that would be so much worse.

    Run free CJ.
