So sad :'(

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    So sad :'(

One of my clients, a senior Greyhound, passed away. She went in for a tooth cleaning. After the cleaning, while getting her off the table, a vet tech accidentally dropped her, breaking her leg. The vet noticed the leg broke extremely easily and the dog didn't even show signs of pain (just stunned she fell and couldn't get up). When they did an x-ray they discovered she had very advanced bone cancer. Her owners opted to put her to sleep. They're devasted. What a sweet, sweet dog she was.

I think that's one of my least favorite parts of interacting with other people's pets - we get very attached and it's very sad when they cross the Bridge :(

Run fast at the Bridge, pretty greyhound girl!

Yup, I get very attached to them, I think it's because I've had the same clients for over 3 years now and every single one of them and their owners are wonderful.

This grey is the 3rd client of mine who has passed in about 8 months. 1 was a Boxer with an enlarged heart, the other was a BMD with cancer (that one was sad because he was only 3 years old). And, another client, a 14 year old Golden, is loaded with cancer on his major organs, his owners are waiting until he shows signs of pain/stops eating and drinking to put him down.

That is just aweful to hear.  I'm so sorry for their loss.  For something like this to happen so suddenly has to be hard.  My heart is with them.

aww that's such a shame - but at least they found out before it was painful ... and I bet that tech feels horrible.  so sad!

    • Gold Top Dog

     Oh no. :( R.I.P.

I was surprised when we found out our last dog, Toby had cancer and I feel guilty for not getting him checked for it sooner. :-/

The owners said the tech was bawling her eyes out. I guess she's still very new to the job and she just felt terrible. They weren't mad at her, accidents happen, but they're crushed about their dog. It was all just such a shock.

Gosh, that's truly a sad story and what a shock for the owners and for you. I'm so sorry for your loss.

It really is shocking...I can't even imagine dropping my dog off for something so routine, and then that happens. Her owners wanted to try everything they could, but it was too advanced. They said they really didn't even notice anything 'off' with her except she was a little stiff sometimes when getting up after napping, but they assumed that was just her getting old (she was 12).
