In Memory of Gizmo

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is the theme of a work of poetic prose written some time between 1980 and 1992, whose original creator is unknown. The theme is of an other-worldly place to which a pet goes upon its death, eventually to be reunited with its owner.

    In Memory of Gizmo

I didn't know there was a place to share my feelings.

Gizmo was my16 year old Shih Tsu.  We had to put him to sleep this past August.  He was my puppy and my friend.  He grew up with my daughter and his job was to wake her for school.  I had a few medical problems with him throught the years but one of the most amusing ones (if you can say that) was the night he jumped for my husband's sandwich and hit his head on the coffee table and knocked himself out.  It was scary then, but he would do stuff like this.   We have a bay window and I can still see him sitting in the window waiting for us to come home.  Well this summer he had a hard time walking and it slowly got worse until he couldn't stand up.  He would lay on a pillow and just cry.  The vet gave him shots etc to make him comfortable.  I came home, he was with my husband and he could no longer control himself and he pooped where he lay.  There was blood in it and I took that as a sign.  My husband and I took him (my daughter couldn't do it) to the vet., my husband couldn't stay in the room, so I held him and told him how much I loved him.  All I can remember is his eyes after he was gone and how I couldn't leave him.  The vet was great and told me to take all the time I needed.

Well in Oct. I went to just look at puppies and came home with my little girl Madison also a Shih Tsu.  But Gizzy boy as he was called will always be in my heart.  As my tears still fall as a write this.

    thanks

I'm so sorry for your loss.  Take comfort in knowing that you and your family gave Gizmo a wonderful home and life.  I have a 8 month old Yorkie and if my husband ever consents to letting me get another dog, it will be a Shih Tzu.  I love their little faces, they are such... cute. dogs.[:)]
Take Care, you and your family and I'm sure it's helping you by having your new girl furbaby to love.

I'm sorry for your loss of Gizmo.  We had to make the heart-wrenching decision to help our precious boy to the Bridge about 11 months ago.  It's awful when their physical bodies can no longer support their souls and we have to look for the "right time" to make such a sad choice.  Like you, I touched and spoke to my dog right to his final breath, and if it wasn't for my husband's efforts, I may have stayed with his body for hours.  Walking away from it at the clinic was nearly unbearable, but now I have his ashes at home, where I still talk to him.

Run free, Gizmo.  Watch over your family as they continually adjust to life without you and as they make room for their new pup.  Watch over her as she finds her own special place in their hearts. You are surely missed.

Gizmo runs fast at the Bridge, now. And a heavenly reward awaits you for being his best home.

Karen, Gizmo was a lucky little fellow.  You took care of him in every way possible and had 16 wonderful years with him.  I'm so sorry for your loss and can understand the pain you still feel.  Take care of yourself and know he's got a lot of new buddies at the Bridge to keep him company.
