Need thoughts....

Hi ladies! :)

Here is the an email I got from Gina today and I could use some help and thoughts from you. Reading through the email, I personally see it as a vent. People get sick of seeing the same behavior. But, the thing is, we want the forum to change where there is more of a free exhcange of ideas and information. Yes, both Espence and Anne can get terribly annoying. But, in the end they are just OPINIONS. Unless the gloves come off I don't see what we can really do, nor what we'd want to do.

How should we handle complaints from our membership that encourages exchange of ideas without pissing off our core members?

I am letting Dawn know I do not Mod anymore and to send things like this to you in future. But I do think you should see it and share it with the other Mods as well, so all can be up to speed with the membership's feelings.

Now,

I am a cranky bitch this morning. I am feeling very intolerant of people who use this board to press their own agenda's(I have a new favorite word of the day)over and over again that I want a beating a dead horse smiley back.

I am going to have someone make me a siggy that referres to that without the dead horse, guess I need a different term for the same thing, anyway I degress.

I responded to Anne and Espencer in the Beyond CM thread. I am sick sick sick of her constant pushing of reward based behavior to every tom *** and harry on this board, but gets bent out of shape if someone disagrees with her. SHE has an agenda and I dog is allowing her to use this forum to advance her views. I personally think that she needs to stop and start her own damn forum.

And she can take Espencer with her. They deserve each other.

She started that thread knowing it would get a hit, and it did, and of course she does not like that part. Not to mention that subject has been beaten into the dust. Hell the dust is smithereens by now.

I on the other hand am the soul of forgiveness and tolerance. When I have had enough, I can not keep it in. They both gets tolerated by the system and it is not fair to the rest of us. This forum is my escapism from real life with people who do what I do, love dogs. I know there are people out there I will not always agree with but I can live with that.

Anne is abrasive, she always has been, and I will never EVER forget that she suggest somone divorce her husband, over a puppy.

Especer is just as abrasive, always looking for a fight.

I am now getting to the point where I am intolerant of what I see as a lack of manners due to the internet. People like Anne and Espencer think they can say what they want with no recourse.

Some days I hate the internet.

So, this is to let you know, I don't think I went over board, I did not name names, but I was NOT NICE.

You wanna know my knee-jerk reaction? She doesn't have whatever it takes to post an effective response to both Anne & Espence in that thread. EDIT to say "WHoa, she DID post a response. It ain't nice, either, but I'm ok with it overall." I saw the thread last night, and I saw E & A snarking at eachother, and honestly I thought of the earlier days of dog.com, where this would just go on... and so I left it alone. They're debating thoughts, not individuals, so it's ok. (EDIT, until I saw Anne respond that she thinks Espence has an agenda... um, kettle, meet pot!)

She may have her shorts on too tight over this one - I saw her complaining about manners in the mindless chat for today. What are the manners she wants? That nobody should have an agenda? Guess what - that's an agenda right there. That people shouldn't be allowed to post mulitple thread over years of history proclaiming their beliefs? Or trying to find scientific evidence to support their beliefs? If you don't like it - challenge it. IGNORING it is what causes Anne to continue to ride around Behavior like she owns the place - because the long-term peeps who don't agree are sick of debating her, and the short-term peeps who don't agree think she's the authority, so they back down, or they get more forward than "some" would like their internet manners to allow them to get??? really?? REALLY???

So, what kind of manners does Dawn want? That Anne shouldn't be allowed to continue to post her rewards-only responses to everything? Guess what - that's her. IF you've got the balls and the time, post a response to the thread. Good for Dawn if she did (I presume from the note below that she did). EDIT - yep, and of all the people, hers is a little more lacking in "manners", imo.

How would you guys feel if someone posted in that thread "you know, I'm tired of all these reward-only threads. Cesar in particular has been batted around ad nauseum around here. I wish there was a fresh perspective on this, rather than the same old-same old." - would you guys edit that??? EDIT - guess I don't have to ask - look at her response - would you edit it?

don't have time to read the thread at this moment - but if it isn't personal I say let it be. Part of her frustration is that the forum was a just a friendly chat room for ages - maintained by Gina and now it is being a little less 'friends only'. If that thread irritates her, avoid it. There are many others. This is a forum for debate by adults and adults can agree to disagree or go around in circles ad infinitum if they like. That is my opinion anyway.

We are allowing more debate and because it is a change there will be those who don't like it - ah well, such is life.

One word simplifies your post. Agenda.

This was meant for the people who want to read about this point of view in a central location, and not for the people who, predictably, will jump to the defense of their idol.

Who wants to read it? Why should someone whether they like CM or not, not have access to the answer post? Why is one so important and not the other? Why title this what you did IF YOU DID NOT EXPECT A NEGATIVE RESPONSE?

Cause you did, you are many things but naive is not one of them.

It is real simple, the first post is part of one persons personal agenda, the second post is someone else's view on the first post. And since it is not the same view as the first person, it is suspect by the poster to the point that the first poster must resort to pushing aside any statement that repudiates it. Which of course is what the second poster lives for.

Because I feel that people who want other's to change to their point of view need to be a lot more forgiving and tolerant of others. You can stand there and say that CM is the devil until the cows come home. Someone is still going to call you a liar. Does it make them wrong? No it sure don't, at least no more wrong than you are.

And for the record I think the baiting first post caught exactly what it deserved.

I'll go edit "Someone is still going to call you a liar. Does it make them wrong..." part. That crossed the line, name callilng. Geesh!! This morning .... I have emails from EVERYONE. Not even kidding you. This BS, then Becca -- good Lord. Tech problems.... ugh!!

I don't understand WHY she has to post if these people bother her. Why not skip the thread? I've NEVER understood that, still don't.

everyone is e-mailing about this thread and Becca's? Geez, I thought the million and one complaints about the youtube foot fetish dude was bad enough! Sorry to request the hand-holding on what to say to our other baiter. I just suspect since we're talking about a breeder, that we need to be very careful in how the direct contact w/our baiter is handled -esp if it's the breeder or his associates.

Don't be silly -- you don't need hand holding, I know you are just trying to get a feel for what to do. That's what makes you good at it :) Loved your in thread warning, I had to laugh!!

Personally i'm still a fan of getting rid of people posting specific Kennel names. How easy would THIS problem be to solve then?

Yes. ... LOL THE FOOT FETTISH hahaha thank you for handling that. I had an emails about that, too. You should have seen my face when I checked my email this morning. "WHAT HAPPENED TO DOG! Someone must have driven it over the cliff...." thankfully nothing ended up being that major just all stupid stuff all over the place.

Personally i'm still a fan of getting rid of people posting specific Kennel names. How easy would THIS problem be to solve then?

so, when someone asks for personal reco's on kennels, do we tell peeps to send it via PM rather than open in the thread, then? (For instance, when Megan was looking for Dobe breeders), or, when people come on and say "I was thinking of this place, does it look good to you guys, anyone know anything about them?" - are we not allowing that? I tend to think it's useful, because without the name posted, very few people are going to bother to post a response. BUT, if I saw a kennel I loved, or thought was garbage, I'd be quick to respond. I could do it via PM if necessary by rule standards, but I'd respond. Maybe this is a topic for another thread, sorry! lol :D (and, of course, with today being what it is, I'd say the topic can wait until we have a chance to breathe...)
