I'm Not Likin' the Rumblings...

    I'm Not Likin' the Rumblings...

...of cheating regarding the Cutest Dog competition.  Now, many of us who entered don't really expect OUR dog to win, but we do expect that the dog that does win does so without benefit of cheating.  I'm hearing reports of "hiding IP addresses" so that multiple votes can be cast.  And, one cute puppy has amassed over 6,000 votes this week!  Excuse me, but if one of the best known dogs on this forum has less than 50, what does that say?  I'd be expecting vote totals in the hundreds maybe for a really cute pup, but most people vote for a dog that they know.  I hope that dog.com will figure out whether cheating is going on, and, if so, will award the money to a dog that deserves it, not a dog that is being enriched by being dishonest.  Comments?

Now that is sad, truly sad. And I hope it is not true. I have voted for everyones dog here on the web page.

I have to chuckle at the sudden influx of "new" members who will never post again other than to beg for votes for their dog.  I guess that they don't get that we are a community here??

I tend to get really disillusioned with any sort of contest online simply because it's TOO easy for cheating to be mechanically done by anyone who "knows how" (and it's virtually untraceable usually) -- just like spamming is all done mechanically.  It's like any of the "give a click" programs -- it's all about winding up with tracking software on your machine and ... *rubbing toe in dirt* I don't do that either.  *sigh*

It's a shame when something like this happens but there isn't much you can do to prevent some people from being dishonest.  I hate to see the money go to a cheater......

Glenda, it is sort of funny that so many new folks have popped up for the contest.  I hope some of them stick around and learn that we are more than that.  :)

I don't know anything about contest fixing but I will say that people joining just to attempt to 'get' votes has been discussed.  Either we allow all members - new and established - to do so or no one.  The decision from above was that it was OK for everyone to do it.   The hope is that some may choose to stay around and become active members.

It's a shame, really. I've only voted for pups I know though - some of my fosters are on there - and of course - our wonderful (resident) idoggy pups

Karen, that wasn't meant as a criticism of TPTB.  It was simply....geeze.  And yeah, it would be nice to get some new blood....not shed of course! Wink

LOL too funny Glenda and I just wanted people to know that it was discussed not ignored Smile

Someone on the other thread suggested that people are probably using "proxy servers" which, apparently is a way to change your IP addy.  Guess Sioux and I had better go buy a lottery ticket............

Anne, would you like me to try to figure out proxy servers?  I'll give it a go if you like.....Smile

After reading the thread I thought I would pop over and cast my vote in support. OUCH! There are over 1700 pages of dog pictures. My head is hurting!

I'm not sure I would know what to do if you did, but if it will help dog.com to find an honest winner, that might be nice;-)  Just don't give yourself a headache lol.

Wow.  how much of a loser do you have to be to cheat on a cutest dog contest?

    • Gold Top Dog

Anne, do you have a direct link to photo?  All I can ever find is what looks like hundreds of dog pics to wade through and I usually wind up forgetting who I'm looking for. Embarrassed
