oh lordy I am going to do it

I've threatened in past to do it but then chickened out.

I am sending Miss Ellie out to my handler for training and she'll be showing this year.

THERE I said it outloud...now I have to do it! We're taking her down south Saturday to meet the handler at a show and then she'll spend a couple weeks being trained and THEN she'll enter her...maybe even in a regional Specialty...nervous doesn't begin to cover it.

Ellie is TOO nice a hound to be almost 3 and sitting here in the yard being an Auntie lol. She needs to show off a bit...she is worthy...she has her faults but she is a solid little bitch with a beautiful head and bone and I just need to DO IT.

I know nothing about beagles except what I've learned from you, but she is a pretty pretty girl.  Proper bone and nice heads are two of my "things" - what I look for in the breeds I like - and if she has those then IMHO she really should be shown off since so many dogs don't have those things.

Good luck, Gina and Ellie...I'm sure she'll be a star.  She's shown before, right?  Is she one of the ones you've shown in UKC?

    • Gold Top Dog

Nope she's never been out (kick me)...even to a match. She's been trained from puppyhood of course to gait and stack on a table and on the ground...but she just hasn't been OUT. I walk her but that's not the same as show you know? She'll have a lot to learn as far as focus and not pulling...she's a snorter so if she pulls the judge will think she's DYING lol.

My handler is super nice, positive and patient and she works her Dobes in both con. and OB so she knows what to do...and how to use Ellie's toy drive to her advantage I have no doubt. It'll just be a matter of if Ellie can get comfortable enough and enjoy it enough for us to continue.

    • Gold Top Dog

LOL I won't kick ya, in a generous mood today haha!  I know what it's like to have one of those "dying" pullers, been on the end of more than one dirty look from a total stranger over that.

I'm sure she'll be great, and with a nice positive handler there's nothing to lose by trying.

    Oh, she's sooo pretty Gina!!

How exciting! So you will be sending her out for this next year to finish her and then Special her? Or just to finish her?? I think it's super exciting, I can't wait to hear how it goes!!

    Ooooh! BEAGLETS!!

    Go get 'em Ellie!

Just to show and hopefully finish or at least get a couple majors. I won't shoot for the moon unless I know the rocket will even lift off ya know? LOL.

Thanks guys...I will need pep talks after she's gone because I will be worried...she is my secret favorite...LOL.

    • Gold Top Dog

Aww!  You'll be OK, sounds like you have a good handler.  I need to find a handler I trust with my kids... I found one to send him to Canada to finish w/ but for local stuff and to "send with" ... whew.  That's a tough pill to swallow!!  But, we are here whenever you need a pick me up :)

Are you keeping a fatlet from this litter??

    • Gold Top Dog

Shirley is staying in my name with the stud owner...I'll be handing her off shortly tho she'll be showing her and I'll get a pup back if she's bred. I'll be helping make entries and such...

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh exciting!!!  And is Laverne going to a show home, too?  When do they leave?  How are you feeling about empty nest?

BTW - are you going to be showing Cleo?? I know that was the plan, but I was wondering how that was going.  Her and those puppies are OMG cute. Like CUTER THAN ANYTHING ELSE, EVER. Cute. :o)

I don't want to hijack your thread, but I did want to share my little secret... well, it's kind of a secret and I'm not even sure it's going to happen, so I haven't wanted to talk about it, but I guess I might as well mention it to my best girl pals :)

Logan's breeder from 2 litters ago had a beautiful litter, they are 4 yrs old and the pick was a stud fee puppy.  She went to live in Texas on co-ownership with the Studs owner.  Well, BIG DRAMA ensues and the Stud's owner and the co-owner of this bitch cannot get along so the Breeder stepped in to ask if she could take the pup back and place her with me (after asking me, of course).  The terms have most definitely not been worked out.  But, essentially they would both sign off and send her to me... and know she's in a show/performance home and cut their losses (since they cannot decide on a stud themselves and the co-owner at this point is so involved in another breed she doesn't even seem to care).  Should it all work out she should be here in March.  I agreed to take her only if I was left out of any drama, and owned her either by myself only or co-owned with the BREEDER (not the studs owner).  The other breed the co-owner has is bichons, so I think she should do well with Nik, she's also very dog friendly. But small furries will not be safe (cats and the like, which I do not own, and this is definitely a breed characteristic) .... so, i may have inadvertently taken your advice to get a mature bitch, Gina LOL she's finished. But has not been bred... I hope there isn't an issue there.  But, with any puppy or other you are taking that chance.  She is a close relative of Logan (a full sister from a repeat breeding) so, I'd go with an outside stud and keep a bitch to breed to Logan, would be "ideal plan" in this situation.

Whew, that's complicated... but, I'm learning it's almost always complicated in the dog world!!

Oy!  We love that overgrown mutt. Big Smile

Lani you know I'm keeping my excitement tamed a little until it's set in stone but I have everything crossed that Belle finds her home with you.

Gina, we'll be here with support whenever you need it, and I think Ellie will be a rockstar.

    7 weeks!

I don't think there is a bone in Bugy's body that should be humble ;)  He's a giant, lovey-puss and SOO handsome!!!  And good natured, mein gott, good natured!!

Sorry - it is confusing, but the drama is rampant. .. but she's a nice bitch and really could use a home that loves her and wants to work her.  I'm like you Kate, trying not to get too excited.  I thought it'd been worked out once to watch it fall apart... before it was more or less reassembled again.

I really am looking forward to watching the baby boy (Kate's baby) and the beaglets grow up... I would love a weim puppy!!! So, you guys freak me out with your tale of woe with the babies (relay them from the co-owner Gina :o)

Go get them Ellie, you'll be finished in no time, I'm sure!!!

LOL ladies you all know I love my mutt and wouldn't trade him for anything.  Just having fun with his heritage

Kate I am sure the weeks will fly by (OK I know they won't but I'm hoping)

Lani did you ever try the coconut oil?  I bought some last week and been giving B some and his coat seems softer, not much change though.
