    Home from the shows...

... Ok they were like a 20 min drive away :o)  I have to say, that was nice!!

Friday Logan went BOB!  Saturday/Sun BOS, with two different bitches getting BOB (Logan seemed to always be in consideration, the judge today was going back and forth a lot, discounting yesterdays BOB... so at least he was in consideration.)

He's shedding and getting his adult coat, so... he was NOT in top show condition (kind of splotchy... think appaloosa, says Kate).  I almost pulled him, but decided to go for it anyway.  It was good experience for him and he seemed to really get into it yesterday.  I think if he'd shown today like he did yesterday we'd have BOB today.

Overall I guess it was a good weekend.

I'm back, more or less :)

     Congrats Lani and Logan!

I do think I need a picture of Logan the appaloosa though Wink

     Thanks Karen!

Here's a photo I got of it the other day, it really doesn't do it justice... in person it looks like he's had water flicked all over hin. Up close it looks blotchy and from a distance it looks like.. kinda mottled.  ... really, not a great look. Some said Judges shouldn't consider it, but, I got the sense they did.  I mean, when you are considering several nice dogs it's gotta come down to the little things and a blotchy coat, even if it's understandable can sway someone, I'd think.  Still he did well for 18 months old, I feel.

     Here ya go!

Admittedly I know nothing of show 'stuff' but I am amazed at how well he is doing at such a young age.  I figured it would be harder on a large breed than a smaller breed.

Anyway I think it is kind of cute Big Smile  Also I didn't realize he would be getting an 'adult' coat

He thinks it's cute too, it's annoying me. LOL  I stopped shedding him out (which was of course making it worse... it gets worse right before it gets better, I hope!) about 10 days ago, waiting for the show.  Now I'm back to shedding him out, I hope it passes soon.

At about 18 months they go through this, sometimes it's not noticeable, sometimes it is. I think it depends on the time of the year it happens, if they are naturually shedding (say April) then it's not as much a problem. ... in the dead of winter... more of a problem! lol  Also if their adult coat will be darker (which it usually will be) then it will be more noticeable.

His "adult coat" will be a smidge darker, which is why the spots stand out.  My friends bitch is going through it too she's 17 months, she's naturally darker than Logan and her new coat looks to be a bit darker yet, but, not by much... so it's barely noticeable, but it's there.  My friends blue weim went through this times 100, it was a mess, she went from a light blue to nearly black, so I'm sure you can imagine the look of it!

I'm very pleased with how he's doing... i'm still not sure I'll be specialing in him on 2010, but, I'm hoping to.  We'll see how he does this year and decide towards the end of it.

    Thanks again, Karen!! :)

    Big CONGRATS!!!!

Now go to Wal-Mart and in the baking aisle buy some Coconut oil and give logan about a TBSP every day with his food...it helps promote good hair growth and will shed him out quick with a nice coat to boot!

    coconut oil?

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, I've been scouring the web and grilling my weim friends for help with his coat.

You complete me, Jaime. Left Hug

sorry Lani...in all the nonsense lately, I missed this! congrats....very well done! Logan is a Special boy!

    • Gold Top Dog

Thanks so much Gina, ... he is a special boy.  Got a new helmet today, too :o)  LOL it's funny a handler (who handles a bitch special from a weim breeder in the area) and i were talking and he said "You know it's always amazing to me that people who own weims usually own more than one."  and I replied "are they THAT horrible compared to other breeds?" and he said "No, they aren't that horrible, just get them a helmet... and they are fine."

    Ahhh... Special indeed :o)
