A suggestion to the mods

So, basically we are to assume that only posts that have a ticket are corrected by the mod or the accidental reading by a mod? If so, that is basically how most forums work. People just need to get into the habit of reporting instead of hoping it will be taken care of by itself. I am not the complainer per se, and I suspect many people are like that, but there are many who love to just ticket a post or thread.

Just wanted to pop in & say... welcome to the forum.  I would have welcomed you in your introduction thread, but it seems as though you didn't care enough to make one.

I did not based on how many people view the introduction threads, basically a handful.

Just my opinion though, which evidently isn't worth much.

Actually, most of the old timers here value your opinion quite a lot, and regard you as a peacemaker here.  But, if you don't feel valued, perhaps it's a testament to the fact that bigger is not always better, and the big box forum is harder to manage than Jim's little corner of the Internet...some days I long for the old days when an individual really DID own the place LOL.

Wow, this is certainly getting snarky in a hurry!

I stand by my original comment.  If any of us have issues with a mod, we should take it directly to the mods or Admin, and not start a public pissing match.  For which word I will probably be edited, but I call it as I see it......

I actually thought that the How are we doing section was for the retail side of things, but what do I know?

There are two sections here in the How Are We Doing... the dog.com sales side and "Our Forum/Community".

I think if it's JUST a gripe, privately is better.  But if you have a suggestion, then it's a good way to get other member's thoughts on it at the same time as telling The Powers That Be.

For instance, I had a suggestion/concern with the way MY red-inking/banning was handled... sometimes there is some value to having other people say "maybe you got a point there" or "No, I think what they did was fine."  I wasn't able to post here at the time it happened (because of being banned) and I really would have liked to, because I was thinking.... is this a bit unfair or am I just being an idiot about this? I think it's good for the mods too, becaus ethat way they can see problems which otherwise would not have been highlighted.... they can see that yes this IS a problem, lots of people are agreed on it it's not just one "complainer".... not sure if I am making sense here...

I am trying to understand the wheelings and dealings of this forum, just to add, I am not a newbie to the internet, dog world nor forums, but where is this getting snarky?

    Thanks Anne.

I'm going to guess that we're talking about the sex thread?  I got email from someone who also got suspended.  Not to nitpick, but had you been BANNED you wouldn't be here now.  In my personal opinion, old fart that I am, that thread got a bit to graphic.  Of course I had the choice not to read it, but, this IS supposed to be a family friendly forum.  Members should not have to fear that their children are going to get an eyefull here.  And NON members also have the ability to read.....that sort of thing didn't speak real highly of us as a group.

I understand what you are trying to say...makes sense to me, however, the PTB have the right to set down certain rules and standards for THEIR forum, and they have the right to say, hey, this is over the line, knock it off.  The mods have to follow the rules that have come down from above, and I do know that it is HIGHLY unusual for anyone to move a thread out of public view.  This used to be frowned on when I was modding and I'm guessing that it still is.  There have to be really extreme violations for a thread to be hidden away.

I was the subject of what I felt to be a snarky thread when I was modding, and I'll be honest with you, had the folks who felt I'd done something wrong addressed me PRIVATELY I would have been much more open to their comments.  I can't speak for any other mods, but, heck, they are human beings also, so I'm guessing that they would prefer to be told that they "did something wrong" (something you (general) didn't LIKE), without a thread being dedicated to taking shots at them.

And yeah, I typically do play the peacemaker.  Part of MY agenda is to keep this forum a pleasant place to visit.  I've been here for a long time, and I'd like to be able to stay and still be comfortable here.

WOW!!!!  I cannot believe that the entire thread disappeared.  It seems just like days of old....

Entire threads disappear here? What about the lock a thread feature?

    • Gold Top Dog

In my experience, it is EXTREMELY rare for a thread to "disappear", and if that is the case, there must have been something REALLY bad in it.  I honestly don't know if it disappeared or not...going on what someone else said.....I personally wasn't interested enough to go hunting for it.

IF it did, this had to have been a decision of TPTB and they must have had good reason for that.

However, all this is a bit off topic.  I retreat to my original statement....a gripe should be brought personally to mods and admin and NOT made a public airing of grievences.  Anyone who joined this forum SHOULD have read and agreed to the TOS.  They aren't just suggestions for when we feel like following the rules...they ARE the rules, and if we wish to be part of the forum, we need to abide by them.  If you (general) don't like the rules, go someplace else to play.  JMHO.

There was a sex thread??  And I missed it?? (slinking off now to pout.)

Ack, banned, suspended, whatever, you know what I mean.

No one is disputing that, least of all me.

My point was how the rules were enforced.... *I* felt it was inconsistent, ineffective and a teensy bit unfair.  The only reason I brought that up here was to say "I would have preferred it if it was handled THIS way" - because I couldn't see the OP making suggestions for how they would have preferred the incident to be dealt with.  If there are no polite suggestions the thread seems pointless and as you say, better to take it up privately.

    glenmar

I'm not the most prudish person out there, but even if I were, there was nothing "extreme" in that thread.  I think it was an honest mistake that it was moved.

    • Gold Top Dog

Honestly, I excercised my right to not read it when talk turned to the Mile High Club and other stuff.  It was becoming completely OT to the original question and more about experiences that had nothing to do with the original question.  And, I honestly don't know if it moved or where, because it was not something I wanted to read, and certainly not something I was curious enough to go find.

If you and the others who were suspended in that particular thread feel that you were unfairly treated, then, again, this is something you should take up with the admin privately.

For a simple edit??  Good heavens, a little red ink never killed anyone, but is apparently seen as good cause to start a gripe thread?  I don't get it personally, and again, I feel that this is something better adressed privately.

Memory can be very subjective. The way I remember the 'old days', there was a whole lot more red ink, personal attacks and full out, nasty campaigns to have certain people thrown off the board.  I like it better now.

I can't speak for others, but I did contact them privately.  As I already said, I COULDN'T air my concerns on the board because I didn't have access to it, so email was my only choice.  As for whether it was unfair or not....  Well I didn't know then and still don't now because it was moved, and I think that was unusual and not likely to happen again - like you say, unless there is a really severe breach of rules.  So, that's that as far as I concerned.

It looks like the OP has bowed out without following my excellent example of actually making a suggestion of what they would have preferred to happen instead of the red-inking.... IDK maybe I put it in perspective for them by comparing my own experience.

For me at least... no hard feelings.  I am confident that mods etc understand my POV and have taken it on board.  I only brought up my experience for the sake of comparison and if it's going to cause a great stir I will go back and delete all my posts and bow out.
