Hi guys, me again... your friendly, neighborhood idiot :) Another question.
'tis that time. Logan is going to be a papa.... well, eventually.
It was decided by my breeder and I that Logan is ready to be used at stud, this was not a decision made lightly nor is it gonna happen over night. We are approving bitches for after the first of the year, he will be 18 months. I know this is sometimes frowned upon and I'm sorry if you disagree, I hate it when I do things particularly so new to me that maybe incorrect. However, I'm trusting my breeder who is very ethical. Well her and about 5 others (all top, very reputable breeders of weims) out of the 6 breeders I've spoken to about this only 1 disapproves of using him at this age. I figure get 6 breeders together and if you can get 5 of them to agree you have a miracle :o) LOL
Anyway, we are having him prelimmed very soon so people can go ahead and make alternative plans if necessary. But, it seems I have 2 - 4 bitches who will be bred for Spring litters (the first two hand picked, I've already turned 1 bitch down. The other two have show, performance and field homes already lined up, including one top US agility competitor! I'm soooo excited and SO hopeful my boy can produce better than himself!) LOL The first one today asked me about a stud fee and stud contract. My breeder has given me some options, as has a few other breeders.
QUESTION (now that I've finally gotten to it):
Do you use a stud contract and if so, what points do you MAKE SURE to hit in it?
How much would you charge for an unproven stud?
Do you charge a deposit, how do you decide if a litter hasn't taken? Any other points you've discovered in breeding that might be a great tidbit to know of?
I've already verified how the pups are to be socialized, seen the puppy contracts and looked at bitches and pedigrees. They've been approved by Logan's breeder and both have a huge amount of references.
If you are curious these are the first two:
Posie has been decided (Bartlan's Pocketful of Posie, I cannot link directly) I need to get her a Stud contract and a stud fee amount:

And Rose, Graytsky's Ansons Royal Flush Blush:

Rose hasn't been confirmed, but I think it will be fairly soon.
