    http://forum.dog.com/forums/t/87757.aspx  The thread :)  It's gooooood reading.

I cannot believe Gina was getting flack for suggesting she spay, it boggles the brain.

all I can muster is a heavy sigh - I can't believe that some like agileGSD (sp?) would encourage her, as a newbie to showing, to keep two intact males and an intact female that is from a byb. Honest this is such a rural southern thing to have a million dogs all intact - 'cause they're all fantastic dogs and should have offspring............

    bloody irresponsible and totally depressing

edit to add I know i am clueless with showing and competing with your dog but I do care very much about the health of dogs and the overpopulation problems

Just because you aren't involved in showing and competition doesn't make your opinion invalid!  Silly.

It's infuriating people are so against BYB's and then push her to keep her dog intact, particularly in the given situation of TWO intact males and NO fenced areas.  She has said Lillie was proclaimed SQ... but I highly doubt she is from the pictures I've seen. I haven't had my hands on her, granted, of course the pictures can be missleading... and of course i'm an elitist snob apparently. Taking that all into account,I still don't think she is ;)

If she doesn't spay her, I am willing to place a bet that w/in two heat cyles she has a litter of puppies.  Now whether it is an "accident" or an accident, THAT would be the question.

My next dog will likely be kept intact for some time...if I get the Maremma here I will be showing it and will likely give Jacqui the option of using him/her in the breeding program.  There are too few M's here to justify fixing the SQ/breeding quality ones if they fit well into a breeding program....and I am already having a logistical head spin on how to deal with ONE intact dog in the house.  We're going back and forth on male vs. female, both of which have pros and cons particularly related to keeping them intact.

I understand that people do it, with multiple dogs.  They have a kennel set up like Jacqui's (she runs a boarding kennel, if necessary she can put them ALL away in proper kennel runs, though the majority live in the house full time) or like Gina, "don't keep testicles in the house apart from human ones" (which made me LOL btw Gina) or have some other set up that allows for keeping dogs separated if necessary.  Kle has a giant x-pen thing that Joker can dig under.  Has it occurred to her what might happen if she keeps Lillie intact and the 2 intact males FIGHT over her?

Maybe I am projecting....I couldn't do it.  I'd have to have a vastly different arrangement to what I have now in order to keep more than 2 intact animals in the house - not to mention a damned good reason for doing so.   I am just completely baffled by people who are encouraging her to keep Lillie intact - to what end?

I've come to the conclusion that even here, there are people who are philosophically against spaying/neutering, they won't come out and say it but I think that's how they feel.  Either that or because they are so experienced at dealing with such situations, everyone else can too - though I readily admit that because I am NOT experienced at it, I don't know how other people do it LOL.
