Sorry ladies..

I didn't exactly mean to call Anne out on the "I don't understand why" thread, though I think it could be/will be interpreted like that. I just have a really serious problem with her saying in the same post "I used to not know better and I used a prong, now I need to educate others" but when asked to educate others (which is her job) she complains that they are simply lazy for not training the "right" way. Oh, I have no doubt that there are lazy dog owners, I have seen many, but there is just the *smallest* chance that those people simply don't know better, and who knows, the next "her" might be in one of her training classes.

I have a very deep philosophical problem with the criticism of ANYONE who is trying to improve themselves or their knowledge in any respect. She should save her scorn for the people who aren't turning up at her classes at all.

Vent over.

Well apparently I am "beating a dead horse" and thus all my opinions on that thread are totally worthless just because she doesn't like them. Nice.

Kate she appears to be a grumpy old lady too much of the time for me - I do think that both she and mudpuppy have lots of experience and knowledge but come across as arrogant - I haven't been around but will look at the rest of the postings later

personally I really liked your idea of correction vs cue

heck I still only go out in public with a prong on B's neck - usually I have the lead attached to his flat collar but there is NO way I can hold onto him if he really wanted to bolt or more likely desperately needed to say hello to an aggressive or fearful dog. I am past who or who doesn't approve - let them hold onto him and see what they do

Thanks, Karen. I really don't give a toss whether she agrees with me or not, I am fine with my training philosophy and that's all that matters, I just think there should be a balance between one's dog skills and one's people skills. I love my dog, I love most dogs, but I am not into alienating the people I think should listen to me about their dogs. I don't think it serves a purpose to make someone feel "bad" or "wrong" or like they have broken their dog if they are trying to make things better. Plus they pay her bills.

She has a vast amount more experience than I do, of course, but I know what feels right to me.

And thank you...that correction/cue definition has helped us a lot, around here.

Ann & MP have awful people skills - at least via the internet - Ann could not have started this thread thinking everyone was going to just go - poor Ann

This attitude of my way is the only way is how come those political debates go nuts - I honestly can't understand why people are so intolerant. Going off a a tangent here sorry.

I htink many of us can relate to your definition of correction v cue but might not have stated it so eloquently and concisely

Now my broken mutt is sitting with his face about 3 inches from mine staring very intently at me - my penance for going out for a good portion of the day - and you know what I am going to give him some attention - even though he is essentially begging for it
