Poll? Block function.

    • Gold Top Dog

This has been Kate and Sean's hard work...I'm just here for her back up and to make sure that everyone knows that Jill and I ARE the last word on issues. Kate and all the moderators look to us before any action is taken...although you all might not see me much I do know what is going on through their eyes. Of course issues like this I will come around to put the hammer down when needed.

Well, Jaime, I, for one, certainly appreciate your hard work.

    • Gold Top Dog

Well, I appreciate you all.  It isn't easy to keep up with such a large forum, and negate some of the ill effects of people who come here to troll, or to troll just under the radar screen for long enough to stir up trouble before they inevitably get found out or show their true colors.

Oh great, why did it have to be MY thread that got derailed??  I thought it was a danged good topic as well.

    • Gold Top Dog

Sorry, we were having an sporadic hug-fest for Jaime. But I think the other mods and admins should get hugs, too. And you, too, Chuffy.

I for one used the block function back in the days of a-w-s-o-m-e but now a days I just mentally block out what I don't want to see.  A block function isn't necessary - especially if you can gang up on someone.  I for one would leave in a milla second if Spiritdogs wasn't here! Wink

Many of us knew from post one that tsst was a troll.  it was quite obvious.  And when we were told it wasn't espence (sorry espence I kind thought it was you too) my first thought was to check the IP address.  Altough I have three of them, most people don't!

    Good jobs mods!!  Drinks

I agree! I have never used it either.  There are posters that we like more than others, there are posters that are more rude than others...but most posters have good points on many threads..and unless they are just trying to be trouble makers ( which the above proves that the moderators take care of ) why block anyone and not get the full discussion of the thread?

At least all the drama is getting you more hits Chuffy... which means perhaps more folks thinking about how it would be nice to have the "block function".  And there have even been some folks here demonstrating how nice that option would be... so look on thr bright side my dear!Big Smile

Hmmmmmm.....well, good riddance to the trolls, whoever they were.  And of course a tip of the hat to our mods and admins.

    Back on topic.......

I found the block function to be disconcerting when we had it.....I'd not SEE what someone had posted, so I'd end up not knowing what the heck answers meant.......but, that's me.  Some folks might enjoy having the option.

I never used the block function in the old format. I was thinking the same thing as you, I might read a reply to someone that I had blocked and not understand what the reply was about. So, I figured I would take the good with the bad, or vice versa.

I feel the same way as you and Glenda, but I must admit there have been days I was sorely tempted...

Oh yeah!  I so know what you mean!

If someone quoted them, you could still see what they had written in the quoted text.  it wasn't perfect.  I am getting good at mentally blocking some people now.

For most of 3 years some time ago, I worked with a person who had the natural ability to alienate every person he met. That's not an exaggeration or a superlative. Just a simple statement of fact. So, I learned to ignore him most of the time. Sometimes, too well. He would tell me something about the tasks at hand and I would have to ask him to repeat. I had my "ignore" turned up too high.

I just don't get the block function. If someone is being abusive and stalkerish, ban 'em. If someones is merely abrasive, oh well. Life is like that. Of course, I say that knowing people sometimes find me abrasive. ;)

I tend to favor liberal rules, with firm lines.  Cross those very clear lines, too many times, and wave buh-bye. On the other hand, if annoying people are unbearable, the intertubes are not for you.

I had that talent with my ex-wife, Ron.  I could even answer her questions and have no idea what she said.  It was like I would mentally process the information long enough to answer, then erase it from memory.  It was BEAUTIFUL.
