Spinoff: ACTUAL Double Standard

    Spinoff: ACTUAL Double Standard

So here is the real double standard...

I've been told multiple times to not "boss" or "tell people what to write" in your own threads. That sometimes threads will go off topic and that's just how it is... [not naming members or mods because I don't want drama]

But yet I read an original thread, posted my response, and was told I'm off topic. WELL I got a few PMs from people saying they had no idea why I was told I am off topic and they felt my post added value. [once again I won't be naming you but THANK YOU to those who PMed me]

ORIGINAL POST: [for those who enjoyed it]

"Popularity" and "wisdom" prevails in any societal structure. All though many may find it not fair; it makes sense to give "leeway" to recognized members of the forum. "Seniority" has been happening since the dawn of time.

When it comes to adoption/purchasing a dog I would hope more experience members of the forum can help aid the fight in stopping puppy mills, back-yard-breeders, and accident litters. If they don't, it can't be expected that they "support" this cause.

I am not an experienced member; purchased dogs at pet stores & bybs; did a lot of research and learned through my own personal decisions and life experiences. From now on I will only buy Ch. Bred Poms from the top ranked show quality Pom breeders in the USA.

If I was to advice someone on dog purchasing I would tell them to please check out all local shelters first. If you are looking for a pure bred to do your homework and find a reputable breeder. If they are not sure how to do this then I would advice to please research top quality show and/or working dogs; from here you can find ones who are being bred.

If you were to adopt a child a lot of thought and time would go into the decision and I hope one day adopting a dog will be the same way. Pet Stores (and even shelters) give impulse buyers easy accesses. If purchasing a dog can stop being an impulse buy; If we can educate society more; If we can convince to enforce better laws; then maybe in the end we won't have a purchasing problem.

On the other side of things; there are dogs sitting in Pet Stores; and if we all boycott them... where do they go? :o( Poor little puppies... All dogs deserve a home! I say it's not the end of the world to buy from a store but I really hope we don't encourage to do so.

A double standard is saying one thing then being told another and another. A double standarded is provoking or putting harsh obligations on new members or certain breeds.

Hopefully this forum knows better than to judge, segregate, and not follow their own rules.

This thread is for anyone of you who are confused, feel attacked, or feel there truly is a double standard. Post to the original thread, post to the dialogue, either way post whatever you want. This is a forum, its all about opinion.

[please follow forum rules though; if you want to vent don't name names, pin-point, etc. Just generalize and voice your opinion]

You were not told you were off topic.  I posted a general in-thread warning after several posts had been off topic, and you posted yours while I was composing mine - I hadn't even seen it.  The way we do things here, if it had been you and only you that was off topic, you would have received private communication from me.

    Ready? I'll start...

I'm new, yep proud of it. Every place, situation, person I encounter triggers my mind. I joined the forum to see what other dog lovers think and feel.

If you diagree with me I want to hear it and why. If you agree with me I want to hear it and why. I'm not intimidated by anyone on a forum no matter how long you have been here. I love when people step in and fight for what they believe in. Everything someone posts on here I take into face value even if I totally disagree with it. Most topics here have lead me to research other things & learn more.

I also want to reach out to "newbies" and say: If you've got a question, post it and ask it. In life you don't get anywhere without asking. If it ends up being a "dumb question" who cares now you've learned! And even if you didn't "learn" you can gain a whole new perspective about what other people think too.

If something offends you SAY IT but kill them will kindness. Most of the people on this forum have experience and can help in many areas; if they don't, move on.

ALSO I'm going to reread all of our forum rules again because I have been told by multiple members, mods, and admins different things. Either I'm having miscommunication or the regulators are.

    Welcome to the board!

I think reading the forum rules is always a great place to start in a new place, so thank you for being so pro-active! :)  Just please keep in mind that the "regulators" (such as myself) are people.  Humans.  And we don't do this for pay, we do this because we enjoy being a part of dog.community and want to see it remain a place where people can enjoy themselves.

You said it best "If something offends you SAY IT but kill them will kindness." and what's that other saying "You catch more flies with sugar than vinegar?" something like that.  Also true. And always as a general rule of thumb taking things to PM is not a bad idea. It can sometimes spare feelings and potential embarrassment. :)

    Welcome!

SO in summary. My belief was right and the comment was not directed towards me but just in general all though I swore it was......... hmmmmmm haha

    There's a thread about rules here & a link

Oh annnnnd of course always TRY to stay on topic if it floats a little bit thats fine but don't ruin a thread on purpose that's the conclusion

Since it appears as though the misunderstanding that sparked this thread off has now been cleared up, I suggest we just let the thread die.  Most people here are aware of the behaviour that is required for membership here, if anyone is confused on that score they may contact me for clarification.

Umm, wow.  This is getting rather rude rather quickly.

Typically if you are at fault in a thread the mods will let you know via PM.  Assuming that a general warning is aimed at you is, well, assuming and we all know what that accomplishes.  Our mods and admins frequently WILL post a general warning when a thread is going very far afield.  And that's all it is.....a little "whistle" if you will that we are off track.

To be quite honest, your post was all about puppy mills and based on the ORIGINAL post, WAS off topic.  The topic was about whether or not a double standard exists on this forum.

It is generally not considered good form to call out mods or other members in public, nor to make fun of the comments of others.  And, FWIW, jjsmom is not typically sarcastic.

Sorry Kate, I was writing my post when you posted.  If you want me to remove my post, let me know.
