    Feeling attacked

I have only just found this forum and have been posting under Dog.com Forum, training/philosophies etc. and have people rip me to shreds for no reason.  And rude???  I won't be posting any more and probably won't even visiting this site of over-sized egomaniacs again!!  Unbelieveable!!

There are some areas of the forum that need a hard hat warning.  Sadly. that's one of them.  However, there are many OTHER areas that are wonderful and supportive as well as educational.  You might want to look around the forum a bit.....and not judge all of us by a few.

I am terribly sorry you feel that way.  Any member having a problem, or who feels they are being attacked, is always welcome to contact a member of staff to discuss the issue and take any appropriate action.  Staff can't be everywhere at once, so we aren't always aware of a problem unless it is brought to our attention.

Take care, I wish you well.

    Vivdogs...

I am sorry you feel this way. Perhaps it might help you to understand that folks here love dogs...and are passionate about them. I have little doubt that any ideals or philosophies you personally hold...you feel strongly about, and would not like to see bumped around by others. Extending that understanding to others is key in order to get along on a forum with as many members as we have here. The section you choose to post in is one that is rough on about any forum I've ever been on. People like to debate there...and sarcasm and yes sometimes rudeness...happen at times. Because of the passion I spoke about above.

Rudeness is not pretty, and it is not necessary most times, so I do understand your feelings. If you have issues be it with a certain post...or poster...there are mods and Admins both at your service to discuss things with. But because rudeness is so very subjective a topic it's not always going to fall your way.

I think if you hang around and post elsewhere perhaps...you can get a feel for the OTHER people who post here...a bigger sample if you will, to base your opinion of this entire place on. I hope you stick around for a bit...tell us about yourself and your dogs...share some pictures...and whatever else comes to mind.

Don't let a few people discourage you from posting.   It is always hard to determine a persons attitude, expression, through words, than it is if you were talking to them in person, I'm sure you know this, but just wanted to make sure you're not reading too much into it.  I don't go on that forum so much, other than to read what people post, since I can relate to a lot of the subjects without actually having to post or respond there.  There are so many nice people here, just don't let those select few chase you away.  Hope you feel differently, and hang in there!

I've found there truly is a dog board out there to fit every person and/or their chosen belief system. I participate on several. This is the best "mixed" board I've found. Although, sometimes it's more productive (when studying a specific method or philosophy) to congregate with those who wish to do the same without disruption or debate from those who do not wish to participate in that particular area of exploration.

If mixed boards are not your thing, you might find "dogchat" or "chazhound" more to your liking. They're both outstanding if you prefer a pro-Jean Donaldson/anti-Cesar Millan belief system, rather than open discussion and debate.

I would just like to add that disagreement does not constitute an "attack".

I just want to support this statement. What fun is discussing issues if everyone agrees? This is actually the only board I know of where there is a decent number of members on both sides of this issue. That's what makes this board unique and wonderful, in my opinion.

And yes, there are plenty of boards who swing one way or the other Wink  but this is the one where I've actually been able to learn, share and grow because of the differences.

    Yes

I'm sorry you feel attacked.  On the other hand, I have to wonder did you do any sort of reading in the dog psychology and training areas before you posted??  While I didn't post in the thread I noticed you jumped right in with an anti Ceasar Milan statement.  Surely, you knew that would cause some people to respond.

I am sorry, you felt you were being ripped to shreds, but honestly, I read your posts and responses and really didn't see that.....just my opinion, though......good luck:)

Not necessarily.  Since I have been a member here the board has had three different formats.  Anyway, when it changed from i-dog to the old one before this one, I couldn't log in and had to start afresh.  While I had been away, CM had arrived and got popular.  Totally unknowing, I jumped in with a "Who is this CM guy?  Blimey, he's rough and what sort of pack theory is he using anyway because it looks flawed to me??!!!" sort of post.  Yikes.  HOW could I not have known how it would all turn out????  But no, there are some of us who really DON'T know what we're getting into and it IS shocking, the heat and vehemence of some of the responses.

I looked at the responses to your post and I didnt think they were that bad either.  But then we're USED to it.  It is a shock when it's new!   Hang in there, cos we're nice really!!  I'm sorry you felt attacked.  I hope that wasn't me because I actually liked your posts and agreed with them for the most part.

Selective memory is a "funny" thing.

I don't know if there are still archives available, but entering the name of a member along the terms "Dog Whisperer", "Cesar Millan", "CM", etc...used to give you plenty of posts to find out the truth of a member's activities and behavior on this board.

Things have improved quite a bit since the days where every thread where Cesar's name or philosophies were mentioned drew an attack not only upon him, but anyone who dared mentioned his name.

Even in the section designed to simply allow those discussions to take place, his attackers followed. Not to learn or discuss, but to spread the misinformation which came directly from the +R leaders who were threatened by his success.

I think by now I know the difference between a logical and rational discussion, and an emotional holy crusade.
