Mod Discussion, can everyone weigh in?

Mod Discussion, can everyone weigh in?

Although we're all "global" now, I think it might be a good idea to add a mod who is especially comfortable in the Behaviour section...I'm good with Training (although possibly not a good trainER, but anyway) which was one of my original sections, but I've never been overly active in Behaviour.

With that in mind, I'd like to put forth the suggestion of Houndlove.  She posts in Behaviour often, makes topical, well-thought-out and intelligent posts and even the occasions I've seen her criticise someone she's managed to do it in a civil and non-insulting way.  I also don't think I've ever had to edit her...have you guys?  She's been on both sides of the positive/negative line, goes to seminars on dog training and behaviour...etc.

For the record, if any of you veto her, it's a no-go and I won't approach her about it.

    Thoughts?

I have no problem with houndlove.  I don't believe I've ever had to pay particular attention to her(?) so she's managed to stay under my radar.

I wouldn't want to see ANY mod specifically for the behavior section.  So if you do want to add more mods, I'm all for it, but, I'd prefer to stay away from the "section" mods.  I hated modding behavior when it was the "CM" area, and I am not much happier with it here lately.  Too much BS and arguing.  So, yeah, someone who is comfy in that area would be great!  But not as it's exclusive moderator.

    • Gold Top Dog

Nooo, I'm not talking about an "exclusive" mod...I think we do all have sections we spend more time in, or more time moderating.  Gina and I tend to leave Nutrition to you, for example, since I know nothing about food available in the US and you also homecook.  Gina, I know, goes into Advocacy a lot....we don't have "labels" like we used to but I do think we have a kind of (here's the dreaded word...) balance, know what I mean?

    • Gold Top Dog

Well, I for one resent the use of the word balanced.  I prefer POSITIVE. Tongue Tied

I actually feel like a bird set free of a cage not being tied to either of my former areas, even tho I do go there often.  I know that I don't HAVE to go there.  And for awhile there, I dreaded heading to those areas, and had begun to dread logging on to the forum.  Being "global" has changed that.  So, aside from the fact that I don't think one person should have the total responsibility and power in that area, I also know how I felt being "stuck" with those two areas.  Now, I go there by choice and don't have the resentment that I used to.

Works for me then.  But, I'm easy!

HL might be a good choice but she does at times have an issue with Ixas and Lostcoyote so bear that in mind. She is also a teacher I think so her time here might be a bit limited.

I think we need to be very careful who we are bringing in from here on out...we need to make sure we're doing it out of an honest outright need, and not doing it just to keep us from having to do things we don't want to do Wink. I think an Admin presence is very important in Behavior...esp right now.

I don't have an issue with another Mod...that being HL, providing all the above is considered.

I really do see a need for more of us.  Weekends are tough, and some evenings as well.  Kate is in a whole other world time wise and it's just the two of us, and frankly, I can't stay awake much past 9, so that leaves everything to you, Gina.  I often feel that there simply isn't enough of me to go around.

    • Gold Top Dog

I absolutely agree with being careful, and my posting this thread was just "baby steps" towards this, getting a discussion going etc.  I am perfectly happy to be the Admin presence in behaviour and agree that's needed, but I feel less comfortable participating in the conversations in there - not because of who's posting there but just because I have one dog who all things considered acts pretty normal and dog-like.  I just don't have experience with real behavioural issues, although I find reading about them interesting.

I wasn't around for what happened last time....but I don't want a repeat of it LOL.  And if anyone has any better ideas, throw them in the ring. :)

Sometimes it's better not to know much about the section you mod. It helps I think to be objective...but all of us know when a person is being a tool, going off topic, being a general pain...and that's really what mod's Admin's are there for.

I have found myself overmodd'ing sections I frequent...so I do yes believe that it's easier to mod a place you don't put in on a lot...it also helps the people who hang out there know that when so and so says something they'd better listen because you're less "one of the boys" and more a administrative presence. Harder to poo-poo someone for a request/play the favoritism card etc...if they are outside the area most of the time, and not invested in it.

It's something to consider yes...but all this talk could be for nothing if Cressida is simply "not interested" lol...

LOL well yes, that's true....but I would have deserved that flogging you were offering yesterday if I'd approached her without talking to you guys first.

    • Gold Top Dog

I have no objections to her...if she is interested...I think she is a level headed person. As with before...IF she agrees and IF this goes thru this thread will need to be, not deleted...since we all can see deleted posts now apparently..but blanked out I suppose.

    • Gold Top Dog

Lol I got the below from Cressida upon contacting her about the post I removed...I thought it was pertinent to the discussion on this thread, bolding is mine:

"I swear, he intentionally misunderstands things just so he can start a fight. Thanks for moderating, once again my head would explode if I had to do your job."

    • Gold Top Dog

LOL fair enough, sounds like she wouldn't accept, so back to the drawing board.  And I think my head IS exploding.

    • Gold Top Dog

Wouldn't hurt to ask.  She might be more willing than it appears.  It's hard to come up with anyone since we have so many newer folks and a lot of our older ones are a bit too opinionated.

    • Gold Top Dog

    Has anyone considered sooner?

    • Gold Top Dog

I dunno Gina.  Sooner doesn't like me much so that could cause problems.
