    suggestions...

im not sure if such suggestions have been made yet, but i would assume so, if not, im making them now, if so, then im agreeing with any previous suggestions, but i would suggest breed specific forums, or atleast class specific forums.. working dogs, hound dogs, show dogs, small ones, large ones, etc

Not really sure if that would work out too well.  There's quite a few of us that have not so common dogs that would have an entire forum to ourselves.  And there's even fewer of us that show.    But I completely understand where you are coming from.

Ya, I'm not sure how much all 4 of us would have to talk about in the husky forum.  and poor Ed would be giving himself wonderful advice constantly.

You could probably find a forum for your breed somewhere else and come here for more general dog stuff.  I understand that some breeds have very specific problems and issues that are best discussed with other owners of that breed.  Personally I don't much care for husky forums or sled dog forums.  I find they are a place that people go to find excuses for the fact that their dogs don't listen.  Its a husky thing.

Before coming to this forum, I used to go to a sled dog forum. But there wasn't much tolerance for me. My dog is not purebred Sibe. Nor is he purebred Alaskan Husky (they believe in such a thing, as far as lineage from winning lines goes.) And I dared to speak my mind even though we are not actively involved in dog sled racing. We seem to fit in better, here.

I did get a funny image of Ed carrying on conversations with himself, arranging an idog get-together of one, finding out he was taller in person than he imagined himself to be, etc.

Ok, THAT made me laugh LOL.

There are forums all over the net dedicated to specific breeds or functions.  Since neither this site, nor any other, is capable of being "all things to all people" I personally think that it functions better in its current inclusive form.  Some very interesting discussions might get passed over by people who have a lot to contribute to them if they are tucked away in a section a member might not think to read.

Plus, it's hard enough to keep on top of things with the number of sections we have already!  I do thank you for the suggestion.  Smile

Like Ron, I prefer all-breed forums like this because my purebred dog is in the rather unusual position (for his breed) of not being a working dog, and I actually know very little about the work he was bred to do (very little compared to people who actually do it--if you would have asked me three years ago though whether I'd ever know anything at all about coonhunting I would have fallen down laughing at the thought!). The whole series of events that led to us having him, and the fact that I don't hunt him, and had him (horrors!) neutered, does not go over well in breed-specific coonhound forums.

However, if you put "Hound" in your subject line you're sure to hear from me, Ed, Gina, Marty_Ga and several other assorted hound owners in this community.

Might even hear from me - another hound owner with a neutered hound that doesn't hunt.  Unless, of course, you consider hunting up the best spot on the couch to be hunting.

I had friends that owned 2 coonhounds. They sing a lovely song when they find a squirrel in a tree. My friends don't hunt, either. And I know the dogs aren't deprived. They have all the food they want, go to training classes, walks, and have a big back yard to play in. What a life.
