Just how much space should one poster take up?

What I have noticed in the Behavior Section of late is that the postings tend to be long, scientific in nature, and many pages in a thread that seem to be stuck on terminology.  All of this is not very helpful to a JQP like myself and or all that interesting except to maybe a few.

I think you are right here, and its frustrating, because for some of us the terminology EXISTS so there does not have to be reams and reams of pages about what words mean or what we mean when we say them!  THAT'S why I use the terms, not because I am trying to elevate myself to a "higher" status of "scientist".  I would like to add that, where help is asked for, by a possible newbie, I don't tend to use those terms, because they may be scared off by them and in many cases, it's not necessary.  They are after helpful suggestions, not theory.  Where I see a post  by a fellow dog nerd instigating a possible DEBATE, well THEN I use the recognised terms.

So I am not sure that one or two member can cause such a change to a section without the help of those that respond to them.

Well yeah.  But that statement kinda makes this whole thread redundant doesn't it?  Some things are just too easy....

I would probably not spend much time on the K9 boards (especially the one that mentioned me and mudpuppy by name, basically calling us idiots).

Good grief!  It seems some people do not care how small minded, petty and stupid they appear to everyone else... either that or they relish it.  WEIRD.  I know we don't always agree, but I am so sorry you had to put up with that.  That's just... I can't say what that is, as its a family friendly board...

The red ink doesn't necessarily bother me though I have only had a post deleted once. It was me and a few others who speak german quipping back and forth in an exchange of jocularity and it was deleted for possibly being distracting to the topic at hand and, who knows, maybe some others felt left out because they don't understand german. OTOH, I haven't been deleted for using Spanish or French. I need to try my smattering of Ethiopian, Russian (or Ukrainian), Japanese, Chinese (Mandarin). Smile

I just lived with it and moved on. Other times I see comments that seem to be baiting or intended as personal slights not get edited. And that's okay, too. As I found it when it was deemed okay to call a person's posts "uppity", the game is what it is. Welcome to the jungle.

"You learn to live like an animal in the jungle where we play..." Sorry, I digress.

I also don't think opinions can be quashed simply because we don't like them or a poster happens to be prolific. Nor should they be. A person's post with its logic and meaning, or even sub-context, can and should be judged on its own merit. And usually is, whether we like it or not. Such is life.

MODERATOR NOTE:  JUST AS IT IS A VIOLATION OF FORUM POLICY TO GO BACK IN AFTER A MODERATOR AND DELETE RED INK PLACED IN YOUR POST, IT IS ALSO A VIOLATION TO CONTINUE POSTING NONSENSE AFTER YOUR POST HAS BEEN DELETED.

I thought the Admin, Amstaffy stated that members here can not bring comments made on other boards to this board.  Clearly this is a break in that forum law because the innocent party, Mudpuppy is mentioned.  My question is, if Spiritdogs is able to break the law once, can I bring over some really juicey stuff I know that was said on another forum?

Come on Dave.....I would like to hear the juicy stuff......lol

I'm not sure if it's allowed or not, but since I'm nosy & want to hear the dirt, I vote that you spill your guts!Big Smile

Spiritdogs referenced a TYPE of forum, not a specific one as was used in the discussion that prompted the comment by Jaime.  She did not repeat what was said, only mentioned that she and mud had been called out by name.  So I don't think that violates Jaime's mandate, but I'm not sure.

As for other "juicy" stuff.....please share that in PM.

At the risk of breaking the forum law and an accusation of favoritism, here is the site that Spiritdogs is referencing **content deleted**  www.k9forums.com  I see no difference in referencing that other site as Chaz and k9 forum.

I really don't like pm's because I probably get over 200 a day between work, rescue, family, friends, and other stuff.

I stand corrected then.  I thought she was referring to a TYPE of forum and not a specific one.  I will discuss your thoughts with Kate.

    Admin note..

I'd like to make a few things clear:

Members are not absolved of moderating themselves simply because mods/me are here to do it for you when necessary.  You all have a responsibility here as well.

Sniping and bickering doesn't get anybody anywhere.  None of you are being kept here by force, and if you don't like it here you are free to seek a more pleasant forum experience for yourself elsewhere.  Causing trouble here or pretending to not understand the rules is frankly very petty.

Things that are best discussed via PM are to be discussed via PM or some other method of private correspondence.  Not liking the PM feature isn't a good enough reason to discuss private matters publicly...in fact NO reason is good enough.

We are just having a conversation.  Here again, I ask permission before I post something and it gets turned around on me.  Good heavens, this seems to be my lot in life here.

But a couple of general comments.  Moderating activity (more or less) correlates directly with the moderator's job performance, IMO.  True?  And as we have seen so much in the past, moderators come and go and come and go and come and go while the forum is always here.  So it is worth sticking around because there are always changes.

    • Gold Top Dog

You asked permission and you were told no, not once but twice.  Gosh, I would think that would pretty clearly give you your answer.

This thread is going way off topic and needs to return to some semblance of ON topic.

    • Gold Top Dog

I'd like to be reminded of what the topic is meant to be... I mean, I thought I knew, but then I looked back at it and now I am not so sure.  OTOH, now I re-examine it, it seems like a thread I no longer want to be a part of, so I am out.  Enjoy discussing.... whatever it is that this thread is supposed to be discussing.
