Kate, you need to handle this

DPU is responding to Ixas little tirade.  He's still annoyed that the pics and advertising link for the photographer were removed from his Phoenix the chow thread.

    Re: suggestion re: linking rules

Thank you Ixas_girl for starting this thread.  I was relunctant to comment.

I did recognize 3 instances in the guidelines that were specific to one individual, that would be the individual you are referring to.   I was also looking for answers in the guidelines that would have addressed my question that I have been asking for 3 weeks now concerning a thread.  I am still not clear and there has been no direct response from the PMs I have sent.  Here's the thread.

I've dealt with it....off to post on that thread.

I put a little something up there about the general concept of guidelines and that they usually do come from the actions of specific people or groups...duh on those that seem shocked by that LOL.

Thanks.  I'm pretty sure that I posted about this earlier in the week.  He's really been fussing about his photographers links.  And I've not gotten an answer on whether that is ok or not.  He SAYS that Jaime or PC ok'd it.  I'm not sure, but he doesn't usually out and out lie I don't think.

I will check this with Jaime and Jill, but I am of the opinion that any section on rescuing dogs, even on a for-profit site, is OK provided it is the section itself or a specific dog that is linked to.  For example, dog.com has an adoption section.  If we were in charge of a forum not associated with dog.com, I would be OK with a link to www.dog.com/rescue (or whatever the URL is, I don't actually know) but NOT www.dog.com...the main page of the sales site.

We allow one-time links to sites that sell dog products when people are recommending something they have tried and loved.  I don't think this is any different.

I'm fine with whatever decision is made. I asked DPU that when he gets special permission he needs to ask the giver of that permission to put a note in the den so we ALL know it's been ok'd.

as I recall the link was www.professionalphotographerwhomakesalivingdoingthis.com  Obviously that wasn't the real name.....

He was snarky in his response to me...I set that straight pretty quick though lol.

Links are a tricky thing...and to some extent we need to judge each on their merits...but I do think stuff like this should be allowed provided the link is to the dog itself or the rescue section.  It's not always an easy call to make, what should go and what should stay.  I do think DPU is probably the member least likely to attempt to spam the forum, but we can't make rules just to fit him, they have to apply to everyone so we do need a policy about it.

I agree that DPU is least likely, but, what we allow him to do, others will want to do.  And, as I said ABOVE the photo was the link for the photographer.  If Jaime DID ok this, why would she stay so absent?  Not like her to abdicate responsibility and I am wondering if she actually DID ok this....he said it was her or PC....which makes me wonder if he's stretching the truth a little bit.

Gina, I loved your post btw.

I know Jaime's been really busy, I just spoke to her on the phone.  No idea whether PC would have OK'd this, but it would have to have been back in August or before, so why is this the first problem we're having with it?

I told him that for now, as long as he links directly to the dog or rescue section it's fine, but we reserve the right to change our minds if it gets abused.  I also said there had to be an actual link, not a linked photo.

The link was above the dogs photo and the link was directly to the photographer.  In that case I'm not sure it's ok.  I wonder if there is a way to JUST remove the link and leave the picture?
