I also hate not being able to see who started the thread.

I am sure you are going to get your way because many others have said this.  But who cares who started the thread.  It is the thread title that is important.  Don't you think.  Maybe all that want this should take up a collection.

    Patience please folks?

Remember the last change?  Remember how most of us hated it when they first rolled that out?  Remember the bugs, the glitches, the yada, yada, yada?  Give them time.  Use the "contact us" link and let the PTB know what you like and don't like, and they'll get to everything.  Remember that something like not being able to post is likely going to take priority over not being able to update or use your blog, but they WILL address every problem.

Do I like everything?  Nope.  Did I get a vote? Nope.  Were some major mistakes made in how this was handled?  I think so, but that's JMHO. I'll get over it.  Will I get used to the changes?  Yep.

Remember why most of us are here.  Most of us are here for the information, the sharing, the community and to help out where we can.  All the bells and whistles aren't that important to the WHY we are here to begin with.

Please give them time to get stuff fixed and in the meantime, offer what help you can, gain what information you can, and enjoy the PEOPLE who are part of the community.

The 16 dog houses and 50ft dog collar are a bit scary...

6 years of archives (1998-2004) are gone.

Honestly, for me, I don't even care that the forum is buggy or that the layout isn't perfect. I think the basic idea of the new setup is neat, and the new features will be a lot of fun.

However, I still think they shouldn't have made these major changes and changed the forum URL without making more of an effort to announce it beforehand. I was hoping we might get some sort of a basic apology ("Whoops, sorry guys, didn't realize you'd be upset, thought folks read the Tech forum!" or something) - that we haven't (at least not a very visible one) tells me that the Powers that Be don't really care that much or simply aren't paying attention and would probably do something similar again, and that's what really bothers me. To me, it communicates as disrespect for the forum members. "This is a free service so you have no right to know what's going on" is what I'm hearing. Hopefully that wasn't what was meant?

Yes, yes, have patience, etc., but this is the "How are we doing?" section, and I think we're allowed to give voice to our criticisms here, as long as they don't spill over into other sections. I don't mean for anyone to feel the need to get defensive - it would just be great to know that in the future more effort will be made to alert the members before any major changes. I would love to have an "Okay, we'll do that next time" instead of just a "Quiet, complainers!!" Wink

    lol! well said!

i think the reason so many of us are upset (myself included) is because we have been robbed of a big portion of the joy that was involved in coming here. of couse we remember the main reason we are here. it's the people. but that doesnt mean that everything else has to suck so bad. lol.

that's what you get, when you make a place this addictive and then you take it away! ADDICTS UNITE! WE WILL START A REVOLUTION!

lol... ok seriously though.. it's hard for some of us to deal with that much down time and then having all these problems. personally i am often pretty busy with work and am already spending too much time on here. so having all these problems means, i spend less time actually posting and more time trying to figure out stuff. one of the threads i started in the old forum was actually pretty important to me, and in the end i didnt get any answers, because so much got lost in the confusion...

It's important - just look at the thread headers and see the variations of "HELP!" that we get every day.  There are some people who do not know how to draft an appropriately informative thread title, and looking at every single one is beyond my current capacity for time - I have many other things I do in my life than wade through online forums.  If Kate/benedict or Lani/Sera_J or Anne/spiritdogs posts a thread titled HELP, I know I want to check that first.  Some people chronically post things just for fun, which is fine if I have time, otherwise, waiting for the screens to refresh while I skip past them is aggravating.

Change is fine - I read Who Moved My Cheese.  I am not concerned about adjusting to changes, etc, and I completely accept that there are other priorities that take precedence.  But I also know this site was tested among many current members, and many of their concerns, complaints, suggestions for real changes remain the same.  That either says - they (the PTB) chose to accept these things, or they swapped to the new forum in haste.  Oh well.  Happens.  But what a waste of time and money.

I absolutely agree that knowing the thread starter does matter.  Again, if this has been reported to Admin, then I'm willing to bet they are working on that as well, or it's in que to be worked on.

Hey, glad to see you touched down here today.  You are welcome.  Stay a little while and  post a little to those you like.  See you next time you visit.

Umm. No. I don't think the title is more important than who started the thread. Obviously you've never opened a thread titled something like "HELP HELP - Major Emergency" and discovered the emergency to be more along the lines of someone trying to decide between a red collar and a blue one. If however, a long time forum member - known to be a sensible person - started that thread, I'd open it in a heartbeat because I'd know it really was an emergency.

Ok, if thats what you do, but for me, I think all members are known to be sensible and I really don't pay attention if a forum member is a long time member or not.  If someone is asking for help, I am going to see if I can help.  I really can't think of any member's thread that I would knowingly not open.
    • Gold Top Dog

actually for me it often goes the other way around sometimes. when i see a long term member ask about a common training question or something along those lines, then i will often NOT go there if i dont have time, cause i know that most likely i dont have any advice to give them beyong the "standards".

mostly though just seeing who posted the thread helps me remember what thread it was, if i read it before, so i dont have to go back, because i forgot i already read it..

also, i just enjoy the writing style of some members more than that of others. it's just a personal preference, so when i am in NDR especially and i dont have much time, i like reading posts of said members first. of course that wouldnt be the case for you, DPU, because as you often say, you arent much for the chit chat around there (which is perfectly fine by me, by the way. not trying to attack you or anything)..

This kind of sounds like I have stamped my foot and created a huge fuss, which I don't think I have.  I think I have been one of the quieter members when it comes to issues with the new layout.  OH well, if it amuses anyone to think I'm some kind of spoiled brat throwing a tantrum over sweeties.... what can I do?

The thread starter would not bother me quite so much of we have a decent block feature.  Mid you having said that, it doesn't botehr me all THAT much in any case.... sure its a Niggle I have with the new layout but I am not losing any sleep over it. Seeing as there are definately members who I would like to, um, for want of a better word, Ignore and it would be a whole lot easier to do that if I could see who started the threads.  That's all.
