So what do we want here?

With so many, "why are people acting this way threads" popping up, I get the impression alot of people are upset with the way the board has been lately.

This is a dog forum, not a "lets judge other's forum", end of story. This is IMO a place for people to go when they have a problem or need some advice for their pets, not on their life, or how you think they should be living theirs.

Just because it is a public forum does not absolve anyone from being polite, courtious or respectful. Saying it is a public forum, and you can say and do what you want, is quite frankly, arrogant. Is this really the way some of you act in puplic? with your friends? your family? clients? strangers?

I am probably one of those rare people who thinks that everyone should be treated with respect, until it is lost, then it needs to be earned.

She had many options available to her other than leaving the board. She chose that one, and made us all wrong in the process based on our reactions to everything she's shared. Hopefully she learned something, whether or not what she learned has anything to do with any of the situations she posted about, is another question.

Sorry, she didn't make you wrong, that is your conscious talking to you, not her. And what did she learn? She learned that people will go to any lengths to find something to hammer a person with, even if they have nothing to do with the original post.

I don't agree with this.  I believe everyone on this forum has good intentions and wants to be helpful.  Those that address directly with critiques are attempting to change an individuals ways and possibly bettering the individuals life.  Good intentions, perceived as respectful or not respectful, it is the receiver that can take it or leave it.  Come on, can't you just look at it as bad advice and discard it.  Such an easy thing to do.

I am not conflict averse. I prefer unmoderated boards warts and all. I know this isn't for all, and I respect that some people don't like conflict. The sentiment that this board is going downhill is a quality statement based on one's preference. If you're conflict averse, then I can see why you would predict such an outcome. Just realize that it is an opinion and might not be shared by all.

    Moderator speaking,
this thread needs to remain general and NOT personal. Discussion of specific members is inappropriate and unnecessary.

WHAT is it that we are looking for in this forum in terms of our sharing and our responsibility as recipients of the sharing?

In short:  When in doubt, re-read the original post

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Let's review what has come out of this situation, shall we?

Nobody has been helped.  Everyone (whether they realize it or not) has lost, and all the yammering on about good intentions isn't going to change that.

But I thought this was a general topic thread, not specific to one situation.  But then again, I have been wrong many times before.

As a person on this forum who recently had to sit back and watch as others discussed her.. I want to point out to you all that it is NOT A GOOD FEELING.  I ask that you please be aware of what you are posting when you talk about specific people… it is VERY hurtful.
