Good bye

I think the "business section" discussion should be broken out into its own thread.  It's buried in this one on page 7, and there may be folks who have something to say about it but don't want to weed through all these pages that have to do with a totally different subject.

      I Dog  SELLS pet supplies!!!

Why would linking to ANY kind of business (especially dog related)be ok.This is competition for them, and why would they allow it.It makes no sense to allow solicitation of money.

As for the rest,I can't believe anyone would or could let anyone else bother them enough here to drive them away. You could all say what ever you wanted about me,and I would laugh it off and give it back.I will leave when I want to.you all need to remember that in the end, whatever happens here isn't going to mean a damn thing,so why let it get to you..Big deal.

As for Jean,I love her dogs, and we share having a dog that is a tad on the wild side, and like to read posts about her dogs. The Alaskan perspective was also interesting to read.

She pm'ed me directly to ask me about the "member"deal.I answered honestly.I do not belong to any "secret membership"and do not care to,because I do not care.I am not sure she believed me,for what ever reason, but that is up to her.

I didn't think it was right to ask for money for her dogs out in the open, for reasons I stated above, and hope she finds a way to become financially stable.

I cannot change the fact that another mod here set up another forum immediately for those of us who might disenchanted enough to leave. And I can't change the fact that our voices were heard and that decision was countermanded and we have stayed.

I don't think you've said anything that needs an apology. It is possible I'm very dense but I saw an opinion that was stated without personal attack or name calling.

I think the business section is a cool idea and I'd vote for members being a member in good standing for at least 6 months and having a post count of 50 (to show that they aren't just registering to pitch their sites, but they do post and contribute.  50 posts in 6 months is really not a lot).  I'm fine with iDog reserving the right to deny certain links/postings that might be competitive.  Unlike other boards, this one is unique (for me) in that it is attached to a for-profit business.  However, I don't think it would be a big deal since most of the things iDoggers are selling are special items you can't find on dog.com.  I also agree someone should start a new thread to continue with this discussion.

I really don't care if ALL sigs and whatnot are removed.  This site is free and owned by someone, not us members, so we don't get to make the rules.  I belong to a board that I do pay for, and you have to be a paying member to have a signature, period, and must have reached a certain post count in order to be able to post ANY links (in your posts, not just sigs).  Again, these are privately owned sites and boards so if members don't like the rules, we can leave and start our own sites.  I think this is a great site and if it came down to it, I'd definitely pay a membership fee.  Some of the information I've received here has actually saved me a lot of money already!  As an aside, when I was stocking up on dog supplies for my first dog, I tried to get most of the things from dog.com b/c I want to support this site.

Ok I am officially spraying everyone with an invisible internet hose.. [:-]

Goodbye Jeano, we'll miss you and your two wonderful hounds...

Yes, dog.com sells pet supplies. I myself have ordered from them due to some awesome prices. However many members have really awesome businesses that are unique from anything dog.com sells! Now, I understand not being allowed to link to a site that carries the same items as dog.com... but even THEN, doesn't dog.com have a low price guarantee? If a member is selling the exact same item, we can get it from dog.com at a lower price and that just makes dog.com look BETTER!
If I ran this site, which of course I don't :)... I'd encourage member businesses that do not sell the same items as dog.com, someone who buys a unique collar from collarmania or a neat mountain rope lead from Ella's Lead, etc, is not going to be in the market for dog.com leads and collars anyway. Also, I don't know about you all, but when I get in a dog shopping mood, i tend to go to a few places to find stuff, memebr businesses make me do more looking on dog.com as well!

Editted to add - No I don't have a business, I'm just so into this because I really enjoy the unique things our members offer and am in awe of their talents.

I, myself, buy over $100 every two weeks (sometimes even more frequently) from horse.com as that is where we get a LOT of stuff for our business from. It's not our ONLY supply source, but it IS a supply source for us.
I'd be doomed if I couldn't buy from horse.com as they are extremely well-priced.

So, while I don't buy too much from dog.com (that's because I can get what I need for my dog locally), I DO buy from (so I support, in a way) horse.com.

Regarding the business section - I still think it's a great idea. Any suggestions as to minimum requirements for membership? Number of posts? Duration of membership?

I think they should have to have 50 posts before being able to post in the business section.

I'd prefer tp see the minimum in time rather than number of posts.
I'd prefer to encourage a business poster to be on for 3-6 months with only a few posts, rather than on for a day and a half with 50+ posts.

Seems reasonable then to make the requirements two-fold...post count AND time on the forum. I'd prefer the time be 6 months...and within that the post count of 50 is fine.

I didn't even think of time frame. You guys are right.
    That would be totally fair.

Hey that`s a great idea. Disable sigs and avatars. Save the bandwidth. Lately it looks so crappy with huge banners for sigs and huge avatars. Now somebody wants to form a cast system or hierarchies using posts and time. End it all, get back to basics.
Another good bye thread that`s turned into a book.

But can't you be a member and not ever post?  I dunno, just seems like to be able to post your business, you should be here longer and/or more active in the forum.  My vote would be 1 year and 100+ posts or 6 months and 100+ posts.

This is for posting in a business section.  Its to prevent people from spamming the sight.  So no one can just come her, sign up and post a business until they are a contributing member of i-dog.

    ron2, spiritdogs, pollypuzu:

I'd like to know which "Christians" you're calling out in this thread.  I made a couple of posts to Jean asking her to look at her reasons for posting a message such as this and asking her to consider that there might be more empowering ways for her to transform her hurt in this situation.  I was direct in my comments, and I clearly owned what was mine in those statements.  I stated how her post occurred to me...and did NOT cast judgment on who she is as a person.  I asked her to simply look and see if there was an opportunity for her to ask for what she needed.

This is what the LORD says:
          "Stand at the crossroads and look;
          ask for the ancient paths,
ask where the good way is, and walk in it,
and you will find rest for your souls.
But you said, 'We will not walk in it.'
    Jer. 6:16

If that's the case, then why do you assume that any of us were directing our comments at you?
