    Dog.com Sales Announcements

    Hi moderators,

Hope everyone is doing well today! Just want to let everyone know that I will be posting Dog.com sales this week, so you will see promos being posted by me. I am giving you a heads up so that you won't think that I am trying to spam anyone, LOL. Also, I do apologize for not having gotten back to anyone on the forum groups yet. I am waiting to hear from Kelly in regards to how she wants the groups to be set up. Once I hear back, I will let everyone know.

I'm not sure how Laurissa used to post announcements from Dog.com or where she would post them, so i put it on the announcement page and the dog.com sales pages. If there are questions, please feel free to let me know.

I will try and keep everyone updated as best as I can.

Thanks and have a Happy Monday!

     Thanks Gloria! :o)

Sounds good, I'm sure the members will LOVE the new area for products!!

Maybe you could add advertising boxes along the side of the forum that promotes the sales items?  Some put it right in the messages, those I find distracting.  But, along the sides of the forum is kind of wasted space..... might be good, it's a huge forum, might as well put that space to use!

    Have a great Monday ladies!

    Thanks!Big Smile

I hope to hear from Kelly soon on it. As for adding the advertising boxes, I will do so as soon as I can figure out how to do it without messing up the forum. After that whole asterisk thing, I am trying to be careful. However, we have a new tech person who just signed up for the community forum and you might see him testing things out on here. Like you said, we want to put all that space into good use. LOL.

Have a great week ladies! We are almost to Friday!

I have been asked to tell Gloria that "us simple forum members don't like to be spammed" with multiple postings for the same thing.  I laughed and told her - they OWN this place, so they can do whatever they want! lol  Poor Glenda, always has to complain about something not being the way she likes it.

Meanwhile, there's some kind of feed there on the side in existance, because we've been seeing advertisements there in the past.

    • Gold Top Dog

I wonder what Glenda is smoking and if she has some to share.  Those who PAY for the forum can break every rule, then yell about you complaining about it.  "Simple" is not a term I'd ever use for Glenda.

    (((sigh)))

See, Gloria, the fun of the forum! LOL

Hey, Gloria- there's a new ID for Mathew, mmarr@dog.com.  I cannot approve it because when I try, I get redirected to a page that says "You are not a moderator" - ahahah!  Same thing used to happen with Kate (benedict)'s profile because she was a System Admin or some other highest level of authority.  I think you are going to have to approve that id, since we don't have authority that high up.

Well....I guess I got the message across about Dog.com offering Flat rate shipping. LOL.

Paige, I saw your email and I just had to take a look at what was going on. I'll admit, I did get a chuckle when she said I was being pushy. I wouldn't call it that...I'd call it promoting. I like your rule though Lani, about "Those who PAY for the forum can break every rule, then yell about you complaining about it.". I think it's a good rule to keep in mind. LOL.

However, to keep the complaining down to minimum, I'll go ahead and ask Kelly if we could just keep it to one post. Then I'll go ahead and reply to Glenda about it. Either way, she'll get an answer from me. I don't really want to start anything, but would just like her to understand that promos are essential.

Paige, you mentioned this?"  Meanwhile, there's some kind of feed there on the side in existance, because we've been seeing advertisements there in the past." Not quite sure what it means, any examples so I can go ahead and try and fix this?

Thanks!  I'm glad to be joining in on the forum fun.LOL

Not a problem!  Matthew is our new tech person and according to our tech department, has had some experience with this platform. Hopefully, he'll be able to help us out with some of the back-end issues that I haven't been able to figure out. I'll go ahead and approve of him and keep you guys updated on anything I find out.

Just so you know, my fingers are crossed on this. LOL.

When you go to the main forum at forum.dog.com/forums, on the right hand side, almost toward the bottom, there is an image file there that changes.  Right now, it showed me http://forum.dog.com/Themes/Default/Images/Banners/puppybig.gif  but prior to that visit, it showed me http://forum.dog.com/Themes/Default/Images/Banners/videobig.gif  and then http://forum.dog.com/Themes/Default/Images/Banners/fishbig.gif  (there's another about dog food, etc.)

Perhaps that was always intended to be a specifically pre-set rotation of images, but it seems like you could throw your advertisements in there - once you find the source code that feeds it.  When I look at the source code, I can find it under CommonSidebarArea at line 1248, it says: "ctl00_ctl00_body_rcr_rcr_ctl06_AdRotator1".

The same AdRotator is found on the main entry page to the forum, forum.dog.com and is at line 448 in the source code for that page.

Hope that helps.  Again, I don't know if dog.com ever intended to use that area for anything other than that set rotation of ads, but it tells you where an additional ad could be placed if they wanted.  Good luck!

I don't really want to start anything, but would just like her to understand that promos are essential.

She's a real bear.  She manipulated a past Admin into making her a Moderator (several years ago) and then turned into a real dictator around here... she's been on the forum longer than I have (and I've been around 5 years!) and has "marked" every corner of it.  She's gotten better after being (erm, to say it tactfully) "removed" as moderator she was humbled a bit.  She's also been through a rough time so, maybe that's softened her a bit.  But, be prepared!  The only person who can really tame her has been Jaime.... Jaime has a real gift for forum moderation.  Several of our more aggravating members respond very well to her.

But, thank you for answering her concerns directly.  I would be most interested in how she responds.  Depending on how you word it it wouldn't surprise me that she does some butt kissin' ;) That's how she started the manipulation with the other Admin.

I don't know anything about advertising on the forum (past ads) but I live firmly by the rules "Those who pay the bills..." LOL  I think there is lots of space available for it, and dog.com has been missing a large market by over looking the forum :)  So you go with your bad self!  I hope our new Tech help will be able to figure some of this more difficult stuff out, tha'd be great!  THANKS!!

She actually said something to me about Jaime in my "response to her AR".  She's not nearly as bad as some, just gets a hair across her... ahem.. sometimes and gets persnickety.I told her that she'll be seeing a direct response from Admin in the coming days, because "they" are actually listening to us and want to have a dialogue with the members.   That should soften her - she was surprised she'd get a direct response, so I think your tactic is a good one, Gloria.  She sees herself as "the old broad" around the forum, so signs of respect go a long way with her.

Seriously.  I only buy from dog.com because I found the forum.  I stick around and continue to buy because of the forum.  Meanwhile, it will be great if they can manage to get the review section going.  To be perfectly blunt, though, it needs to be products beyond just what dog.com sells, and initiated by members (as opposed to dog.com saying "looky, these are the best Greenies ever";).  If dog.com could see real members giving untainted feedback on products, they'd get an idea of what could be really hot sellers.  Give them a chance to try to pick up the items for their own sales.  When I poke around on the sales site, so much of it is redundant or less-than useful that getting products that can consistently be recommended by actual users would be great.

You know that old saying "you have to give respect to earn it.", you are probably right it would go a long ways with her, but, I have little respect for her, personally.  But, she picked a fight with me when I first found the forum, I almost didn't stick around because of it.  She's softened a lot, but, she can really pull off the nasty card when she wants to.

I think you'll find a lot of people who feel the same way.  Most of our members are great people who want to support the company who gives them their "social" hangout.  Maybe you could give them a "forum" discount.  It doesn't have to be real, but all forum members can use a code that gives them free shipping (or another promotion you want to run)......

This IS the same woman who will report abuse when I move one thread from the "wrong" location to the correct one.  She's sure someone is spamming the forum by repeating the same thread in multiple places.  I've gotten to the point where if I move it, I send her a heads up so she doesn't AR it..... insert eyeroll here.  I like control and rules as much as the next guy (maybe more?  Embarrassed), but.... lol
