and of course i'm an elitist snob apparently
Elitist snob sisters unite!
My next dog will likely be kept intact for some time...if I get the Maremma here I will be showing it and will likely give Jacqui the option of using him/her in the breeding program. There are too few M's here to justify fixing the SQ/breeding quality ones if they fit well into a breeding program....and I am already having a logistical head spin on how to deal with ONE intact dog in the house. We're going back and forth on male vs. female, both of which have pros and cons particularly related to keeping them intact.
I understand that people do it, with multiple dogs. They have a kennel set up like Jacqui's (she runs a boarding kennel, if necessary she can put them ALL away in proper kennel runs, though the majority live in the house full time) or like Gina, "don't keep testicles in the house apart from human ones" (which made me LOL btw Gina) or have some other set up that allows for keeping dogs separated if necessary. Kle has a giant x-pen thing that Joker can dig under. Has it occurred to her what might happen if she keeps Lillie intact and the 2 intact males FIGHT over her?
Maybe I am projecting....I couldn't do it. I'd have to have a vastly different arrangement to what I have now in order to keep more than 2 intact animals in the house - not to mention a damned good reason for doing so. I am just completely baffled by people who are encouraging her to keep Lillie intact - to what end?
I've come to the conclusion that even here, there are people who are philosophically against spaying/neutering, they won't come out and say it but I think that's how they feel. Either that or because they are so experienced at dealing with such situations, everyone else can too - though I readily admit that because I am NOT experienced at it, I don't know how other people do it LOL.
