    dog dripping in infants blood

This is horrible. Reminder, all dogs have teeth and infants and dogs should never be unsupervised for even seconds.

    Was the title really necessary?

     Hi Rog,

I so agree with supervising all interactions between kids and dogs.  I must say, however, that I would be very interested in the results of the testing from that particular dog, as well as any prior history.  "Unprovoked" seldom happens - the problem is that, barring a physical cause such as rabies, arthritis, thyroid disorder, rage syndrome, etc., the DOG has a reason (whether it's one we understand or not) - but the humans don't recognize any signs, and that's what gets both dog and human in trouble. In any case, it's always tragic when this happens.  I'm glad it made the news, however, since people do need to understand that it isn't only Pits and Rotts that can do this kind of damage.  As you said, they all have weapons in their mouths...

i saw this yesterday. They said it was an OES mix. I looked at the pic, and i thought it looked like a labra/golden doodle.

Yes. It`s very important for people to be brought to their senses that all dogs have the potential to bite. Infants and toddlers present a unique situation and IMHO no matter how much you trust a dog infants and toddlers need 100% supervision with dogs,

My heart goes out to the family, but there is quite a few issues that I have with the story.

First, as another member mentioned, I too have always questioned unprovoked attacks.  While no one except the family truly knows the exact actions of the moment, I always wonder what the parental supervision was like prior to the attack.  Late last year, a little girl was mauled by the family's Pitbull, which everyone jumped to conclusions as usual, that it was another breed related attack.  However, the mother confessed to leaving her toddler alone with the dog, who was chewing on a bone while the mother was in another room entirely.  The toddler tried to take the item away from the dog, which resulted in a tragic accident.  Sadly the dog was euthanized, all because of handler error.  Why do so many people risk injury to both the dog and or child and leave them alone unsupervised.  Besides being common sense, it's also your responsibility as a dog owner and/or parent.

Next, I hate the way the media covered this attack.  They purposely left out the breed type in the article!  One of the members stated that it was a OES mix, but after taking a closer look at the pic, I personally feel that it was a Lab or Golden type mix, and guess what that would mean.  Number one, it wasn't a Pitbull or a Rottie, which the media seems to think are the only two breeds that can possibly attack.  Two, it would mean that one of the most popular breeds of dog, the Labrador (or Golden) can.... bite.. Surprise(The horror!)  If your going to cover dog bites, cover them fairly and equally.  Don't put in the headline "Another Fatal Rottweiler/Pitbull Mauling", instead just cover the facts, and don't sensationalize it.
