    BSL in PA

I got this in my email from a website I like to order bracelets from, that supports Hello Bully. I'm seriously sad and scared. What if our municipality decided that all labs and lab mixes were dangerous, I would never give Teddi up. I also don't want to see any owners lose any of their dogs. Around here all the pitbulls that I've come in contact with have all been so sweet and loving...when will it stop?!

"Dear Customers, Bully Lovers & Friends,

Bracelets for Bullies is very sad to announce that a bill to enable BSL in Pennsylvania has been introduced this past week. PA currently has laws at a state level that prohibit municipalities from enacting Breed Specific Legislation. Pennsylvania HB 2553 seeks to amend the "Dog Law" act of 1982, and remove the following language. "Those provisions of local ordinances relating to dangerous dogs are hereby abrogated. A local ordinance otherwise dealing with dogs may not prohibit or otherwise limit a specific breed of dog." .

What this does is enables municipalities to make their own dangerous dog laws, including Breed Specific Legislation. Specific breeds can then be targeted and outlawed, which in turn takes away your rights to the breed of your choice.

The man that introduced the bill, J
ohn Galloway, is holding a press conference tomorrow (05/29)to publicly unveil legislation that would allow municipalities to pass their own BSL. This is an obvious attempt to gain public support for HB 2553.

If you are in the Philadelphia area, please attend this press conference. Let Galloway know that responsible dog owners  in Pennsylvania are against allowing legislation that judges dogs on looks alone. Remember that you are speaking for those who have no voice. Please be kind and courteous. This press conference is to be held at:
Bristol Borough Hall  50 Pond St Bristol, PA 19007 on May 29,2008, at 11:00am.

As a resident of Pennsylvania I have always felt safe in knowing that my dogs and I are protected at state level, but now even that is in jeopardy as HB 2553 stands to be decided on in July. The dogs that I love, that my children love, that we all love stand to gain nothing but their demise if this bill is passed. I am devastated at the thought of losing my family to this but I'm not too devastated to put up a fight.

I ask all PA residents to help take a stand against breedist laws, so that we can continue to focus on helping these dogs and keeping them out of the hands of criminals. Please respond to this email if you would like to help fight BSL in Pennsylvania.

    Thank you. "

It will never stop until more people fight against these backwater laws that are effecting communities the world over.  I hate seeing wonderful and gentle Pitbulls wearing muzzles, simply because they were born a 'dangerous and banned' breed.

In Fairfield Iowa there is a total ban on any breed of dog weighing over 100 lbs!  So technically if one had a large Labrador or Golden, it too would be on their target list of dog breeds to ban.

    It's lunacy!  AAARGH!Angry
