If they stopped selling cockfighting books, you still wouldn't buy from
them, if I understand you correctly, because your "boycott" (which
isn't really) has nothing to do with what books they do or don't sell,
true?
True. You are stating my point much clearer than I stated it (I have to plea the migraine that was plaguing me yesterday). What I meant to say both times (ugh), was that by electing to spend my money in the manner I've described, I'm far less likely to "accidentally" support something that goes against my concience. I've found that over and over as these various boycotts are proposed (BOYCOTT WALMART< THEY SELL PORN! BOYCOTT PURDUE, THEIR CHICKENS LIVE IN APPALLING CONDITIONS, BOYCOTT P&G, THEY PUT THE SIGN OF THE DEVIL ON THEIR LOGO), they don't affect me anyway.
It's like I've got a meta-boycott going. But as you say, it's not a boycott, it's just a set of purchasing guidelines that tends to select against corporations, which themselves tend to make poor decisions about business practices. Instead of being "anti" - I ask myself whether there's a better way to spend my money, in every purchasing situation.
Again, it's really nice because one meets terrific people, and it's wonderful being that much closer to the products one uses, and feelin part of a community instead of a number on a spreadsheet. Well, I'm still a number on a spreadsheet in a lot of places, but not as many as once upon a time!
