Retirement fund, huh? This makes me sad, but I'm so happy these dogs were saved.

Yea. The most suprising part, the dogs were not skinny. Most were horribly obese little things. They were filthy, we bathed them as soon as we got them back.

I talked to some people that were on the sceen, and they said the ladies kids were watching the whole thing, like they weren't even phased by what was happening. One said the one child tried to hide dogs in his room, they found them under the bed and in the shower. The rest of the dogs were kept in tiny cages in the back half of the house. Walking in, you would have no clue as to what was happeneing behind the doors.

The papers were wrong, the owner was only in her 40s, not 70s. I don't think that stat has been fixed yet. She was breeding to get white poms (mostly) and had just imported 2 $4000 poms from Germany.... SICK.

Excuse my breed ignorance, but are poms supposed to come in white?

Hughes allowed the deputies into her home Monday and told them she had 67 animals.

"Hughes said she has been a breeder for 15 years and has had no problems," Chaboudy said.

All in the eye of the beholder - (insert sarcasm here)  Not only should the charges regard the dogs, but this person has children . hmm.

They are VERY rare. Rick told me she had been breeding, backbreeding, introcducing new lines, etc. for years to try and get the rare white pom. When she got one white, she'd save it and wait for another white one, then breed those, and so no. But no it's not a natural color.
We all asked if DCF would be called as well, but that's not really out area of expertise. I just did a paper on animal abuse with links to child abuse, so I'm sure it's being looked into.
