very desparate with little time left for many
critters. Please forward and cross-post anywhere you

Hello everyone. I am writing to you again out of
desperation for Franklin County Animal Control in
Benton, IL. As you may remember, this is the pound
that suffered devestating loss during Thanksgiving
week when a fire broke out in their main building, and
the building burned to the ground, killing over 50
animals. Since that time, the volunteers and staff
have continued taking in animals and doing everything
they can to help the animals in their community with
absolutely minimal facilities. They have been housing
cats and kittens in a storage shed building, and the
dogs and puppies have been living in OUTDOOR kennel
runs - yes, even through the coldest and snowiest
parts of winder the dogs lived outside.

Well, now Franklin County is suffering a new problem -
rain and flooding. It has been raining for days and
the area is starting to flood. Please read the note
    from the director there....

'Conditions getting worse. It has rained constantly
for 2 days. Places in West Frankfort (6 miles away)
had to evacuate homes & called Jarrett to pick up
people's pets. Dottie & I both set up our garages
for animals. Dottie has all the puppies in her garage
plus she has Brownie-the dog with the broken leg - the
puppy with the pins in its leg, another adult dog &
all her own pets. I have Moonbeam & another old adult
dog that belongs to a homeless woman they had to take
to hospital in my garage in cages-the 6 survivor
puppies in large cage in my cat room- 2 other adult
cats in my cat room in cages & 3 cats in cages in my
back bedroom plus all my own animals. PLEASE PLEASE
BEG PEOPLE TO HELP US. We've both been out in the rain
for the last 2 days getting soaked trying to get tarps
back up & help all these animals, but the situation is
    hopeless.'

So, I am writing today to ask you to consider
fostering a dog/puppy or cat/kitten in need, and to
share this plea to others you know. There are SO many
there who do not have a chance of rehoming in their
area. And the ladies who give tirelessly to this pound
are desperate for help - and we know there are people
out there who can make a difference. Please contact me
    (630-271-9002 or michelle.parson@ comcast.net) or Lori
Dedic right away if you can foster an animal. They are
going to have to euthanize large numbers of animals by
Monday if we and other rescues don't help them.

Oh My, I havent seen these pics.   I am so glad your able to help them.  I am in Arkansas too far away for me to pop over to help.

Email sent!  I wouldn't be able to get down there to help until the beginning of next week, but if they still need help at that point I hope I can do them a favor...first we have to dig out of all of this snow.

    Oy.

I have also tried calling, but the phone mailbox is full...I'm not surprised.

I must tell you that Michelle Parson's original email pleaing for help went Nationwide.  The response has been overwhelming.  Two of the dogs that were to come to my home got placed into another foster home.  The dogs do keep coming in and with the flood more dogs are abandoned.  I do hope the help also continues to come in.

These poor dogs, Thank you DPU for all you do.

Below is an update on the email posted as the first post here.  Never underestimate the power of an email network.

    Greetings everyone.
The past two weeks have been an absolute fury of activity for Lori Dedic, our VP and Cat Program Director, Jen Geraci, our Dog Foster Care Manager, and me because of the incredible outpouring of interest for Franklin County Animal Control in Benton, IL and St. Francis CARE in Anna, IL. About two weeks ago I wrote an email plea which I sent to you all seeking additional foster homes so that we could rescue the dogs and cats at risk of flooding and suffering outdoor and difficult living conditions. Well, your forwarding the emails to others yielded tremendous results. That email went around the US, was put on all different kinds of lists, and went to corporations too. ACP received over 300 emails and over 100 phone calls within two days from people locally as well as from Oregon, Arizona, Utah, Maine, Missouri, New York, Florida, Ohio, etc offering a home for an animal or two needing rescue, or other resources. So, not only did ACP get some new much needed foster homes and volunteers, we were also able to help the Illinois Animal Rescue Coalition who works with the shelters and pounds in rural Illinois - with whom we work to save lives. They now have new rescue contacts, transporters, and volunteers to help as well.

Now during the heat of all this fury, I was contacted by WGN News Radio and ended up being interviewed last Friday evening around 6:30 p.m. by Steve Cochran. His staff received our email and Steve is a big animal lover so he wanted his listeners to step up and help. That was a very exciting opportunity for ACP!

Additionally, Franklin and St. Francis are receiving much needed donations to help them with their needs. ACPHS has also received donations to help us with our veterinary expenses too. So a BIG thank you to all of you who forwarded our email plea onto others; it made a great difference this time. We have been writing updates on our homepage of our website, and will continue to do so, about how people can help. www.acaringplacehs.org

Now, one last thing.....Best Friends Society, the Illinois Network, also were contacted by people so they could be of help and respond to our pleas. I spoke with them, and when they learned of all the efforts ACPHS were doing, they wanted to acknowledge that and help us too. So, now there is an article about us posted it on their website. Please check it out!

Again, thank you for all your help!  We could not AND cannot continue to save the lives of so many helpless animals without your support!
