An interesting view on an "attack"

I must say I am a bit torn over this article. I mean, the child WAS annoying the dog, and the dog reacted accordingly. I do not think the dog should not be put down....it bothers me that there seems to me a "this lady is crazy" slant to the article. But it is very sad about how badly the child was injured, and you must wonder "how bad does the injury have to be before it crosses the line of a "normal" canine retribution/defense?. A classic example of why a child should not be left unsupervised with a large dog. I am not quite sure what to think about it.

I agree I dont think the dog should be put down either. They need to do more with the kid instead of telling him to quit. And give the dog a place where she can have quite alone time.

I have a 2 year old. I have a 6 year old dog Cheyanne(will be 7 in april) that I know not to leave Samantha alone with.  Cheyanne does not bother Samantha but once in a while Samantha will get the notion to hug all over her.  And Chey doesnt like that. She will get away from Samantha and hide.  But I know a dog is a dog and there is only so much they can take.  I tell Samantha to leave her alone. If she doesnt I get down at her level and tell her why I want her to leave her alone. Most of the time she listens to me.  If she keeps insisting on bothering Cheyanne I put her in timeout.  There is no " Samantha quit.Samantha stop.Samantha leave her alone." I tell her once. I explain.  And then I do time out if she doesnt listen. But she doesnt bother Cheyanne that much.  She has the other 4 dogs that are more than willing to be hugged and pestered.

What a sad story.  Hopefully the mother will take more responsibility now and instead of telling a 2yr. old to leave the dog alone, will take the initiative and pick the boy up and take him away from the dog, correct him and teach him that, that is not how you treat the dog!  A two year old isn't going to undestand, "the dog will get cranky"!  Geez, maybe they should make her attend parenting classes.

I agree with the lady....if not for her parenting skills. Too bad her common sense came after the fact however I can say that if a dog that large really wanted to harm and kill a child that small she could have done it in a heartbeat
