Help!!!! I dont know where to start!

While I am obviously saddened by the events that made this family feel this way, it is even more sad that people cant come together as one to try to fix a issue. I feel for them, I truly do. What do you all think?

Im sorry thats guys brother got attacked but he is ignorant.  he obviously didnt even research any info on the topic before accusing pit bulls of such things.  He even states "its not often you hear of a cocker-spaniel or a lab who attacks".  Hmmm, just shows his ignorance.

Labs are currently rated as number one in biting lately... pitts being number 4.

It angers me that he would write as if he knew what he was talking about, but hasnt a clue, nor bothered to take a moment to find out anything before making such comments.  Just looking for someone to blame...

OMG I cant explain how angry that made me.

There will be no changing her mind, which is sad. She's angry (rightfully so) and lashing out at the innocently (wrongly) but there is little an pitbull owner or advocate can do.

Her arguments are flawed at best and her statistics as well. How many dog attacks are reported as being pitbulls when a pittie wasn't even involved (I remember one where the person being attacked called it a pittie but it was an akita).

Finally, if it had been labradors or poodles, this kind of thing would have hardly made headlines.. and of course it would be "Dog Attack" not "Poodle Mauling."

I am so torn. As a pit bull owner it makes me so sad but hten again if it was my family I wouldn't listen to reason either. I dont know if anything can be done about this specific issue,I respect her fear (not opinion) but she is trying to force ohers to her opinion and that is what is sad. The news will put her on air but not one of us just talking about what a great pittie we have, its sad

I wonder if it had been a lab who attacked him would they be so adamantly advocating the banning of labs...???  Dont think so.

NOBODY should be mauled, by any dog.  I'm sorry that happened to that man.

However, whenever breed-specific stuff like this comes up and people start quoting dog bite statistics, I can't help but wonder just how many cocker spaniel or chihuahua bites go unreported?  Folks are more likely to report certain breeds (that scary Rott/Dobe/Pit/whatever), often larger dogs because their bites can often do more damage.  So whatever stats are out there are likely skewed because people simply don't report "all" the bites that actually happen.

Pitts are not even number one of the ones that ARE reported... shows what research this person did before accusing.

i am also very sorry that happend to him...
BUT...that its ignorence..i got bitten pretty badly by a GSD years back..do i hate GSDs? do i want to ban them?? Certainly not...im sorry he had a bad experience with that pit...this really upsets me, look at this quote from the site:

"I support this petition because Pit bulls are killing machines. There is no defense against an attacking pit bull. People who own pit bulls are making a statement about their attitude toward their neighbors and their community. This attitude is not welcome in our neighborhood. Don't penalize innocent dogs (and cats!) with proposed health department regulations. The solution is obvious....ban pit bulls!
I support this petition because I agree 100% with this petition. You never hear killer Labrador, shepherd, and poodle attacks child. Its not the dogs fault they are so inbred but I don't want them running the street any more than a tiger or bear or wolf who would also maim and maul, because IT IS THEIR NATURE"

OMG!!!! theres some more ignorence for ya!!!..."it is their nature" "pit bulls are killing machines".. i am sorry but if i met this person face to face id have some very harsh word to exchange with them..[:@] "you never hear killer labrador, shepard and poodle attacks a child" well..thats because the media is so obsessed with adding to this breeds bad name...i cant tell you how frustrated i am...i love this breed so much, and to see stuff like this really breaks my heart. Behind every pit bull attack is an irresponsible owner. You never hear about the REAL AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIER of this breeds..the pit bulls that are out their being service dog, the ones doing serch and rescue, the ones helping the police. Did you know the number 1 drug sniffing dog in the U.S.A is a PIT BULL...but of course no one ever tells these stories and certainly do not want to belive it...for EVERY pit bull attak i can give you 10 attacks on a pit bull..im sorry now im just venting..things like this really break my heart. It is ridiculas that EVERY pit bull, is being judged and labled because of  the actions of a few dogs and their irresponsible owners....this just breaks my heart [sm=sad.gif]

Dogs and people need to be judged on the basis of their actions.  Certainly, no one should be banning any therapy dogs who just happen to be Pits or AmStaffs, and no humans should be getting away with cruelty to dogs of any breed.

Just a bit more interesting info: I was watching "Trauma" last night.  It was an episode filmed in Portland.  A greyhound trainer from the local dog track was brought in after she was breaking up a dog fight between FIVE greyhounds. Four of the dogs ganged up on the fifith and KILLED it. The lady was knocked down and had multpile injuries.  The dogs didn't bite her, but people always think that Pitties are the only dogs who fight.  What a load of BS!  What's really funny is that I LIVE in the Portland area and heard NOTHING about this incident.  If the trainer had been breaking up a PIT fight, it would have been front page news![sm=banghead002.gif]
